What you'll do
- Draft, review and negotiate complex commercial contracts across Deriv’s business operations. Balance protection with business needs.
- Handle litigation and disputes. Assess exposure and manage external counsel on matters where fintech creates novel legal questions.
- Design and improve legal operations. Build contract governance frameworks, legal processes, and systems that scale and reduce manual work.
- Provide legal support for LFSA licensing applications and regulatory matters. Review legal documentation, provide legal opinions, and support regulatory engagement.
- Partner with engineers to build AI tools for contract drafting, legal research, and legal operations. Identify opportunities to automate repetitive work.
- Translate legal requirements into practical guidance. Train teams on legal boundaries so they can move fast without creating exposure.
- You are a qualified lawyer with at least 5 years' PQE in corporate/commercial and regulatory law. You've handled contracts and legal matters with real business consequences.
- You understand offshore financial services legal requirements or have strong interest in building expertise. Exposure to LFSA, Labuan IBFC, or similar offshore regulatory environments is valuable.
- You're comfortable with AI and automation. You use AI tools or you're ready to learn to automate legal processes.
- You assess risk without killing momentum. You're commercially pragmatic, helping business make informed decisions with sound legal judgment.
- You communicate clearly. Strong English. You explain legal requirements to non-legal teams.
- You maintain your professional knowledge through continuous professional development.
You'll own legal matters for Labuan-based entities and broader operations. You'll handle contracts, litigation, legal operations, and LFSA engagement. You'll need sound legal judgement and the ability to work independently.
The stakes are high. Legal decisions have business consequences—contract terms affect partnerships, litigation strategy affects exposure, and legal guidance enables or constrains operations. In return, you'll build expertise in offshore financial services legal work.

Skills Required
- Qualified lawyer
- At least 5 years of post-qualification experience in corporate, commercial, and regulatory law
- Experience handling complex commercial contracts and legal matters with significant business consequences
- Strong English communication skills
- Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and provide practical legal guidance
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound legal judgment
- Commercially pragmatic approach to assessing and managing legal risk
- Comfort with AI tools and automation, or willingness to learn legal-process automation
- Understanding of offshore financial services legal requirements
- Experience with LFSA, Labuan IBFC, or similar offshore regulatory environments
