Radiant's goal is to bring one of the world's first factory-constructed microreactors to market.
The Role

Radiant Industries is an El Segundo, CA-based startup developing Kaleidos, a portable, containerized nuclear microreactor. Portable nuclear power with rapid deploy capability can replace diesel generators used today to provide critical asset support for hospitals, datacenters, and military bases or to power microgrids at remote sites. Radiant’s unique, practical approach to nuclear development utilizes modern software engineering to rapidly achieve safe, factory-constructable microreactors leveraging existing, well-qualified materials. Radiant is on a fast track to demonstrate the first fueled operation of a new commercial nuclear reactor design, just two years from now.

Senior Harness Design Engineer

Radiant is seeking a highly driven Senior Harness Design Engineer to own the harness architecture end-to-end including design, development, testing and production of harnesses. As part of the Nuclear Robotics team, you will take great ownership and be comfortable working both autonomously and cross-functionally. You will build and present design reviews, iterate on designs, be hands on in our production facility building harnesses, and overall collaborate closely with the thermomechanical and nuclear robotics teams. This is an exciting opportunity within a small team to get exposure to electrical systems architecture from early-stage development through production. You will be a key contributor in testing the first commercial reactor design in over 50 years by 2026.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Own responsibility of the design, development, fabrication, installation, and testing of electrical harnesses for a nuclear microreactor.
  • Develop electrical harness architecture, interfaces, and schematics for the nuclear microreactor system.
  • Own the logical and topological design of the electrical harness architecture.
  • Gather technical requirements and specifications to select harness materials including, conductors, connectors, terminals, overwraps, and tie downs.
  • Own the electrical device library system and keep it up to date with quality standards.
  • Perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting as issues arise as well as conduct trade studies to optimize designs.
  • Be the subject matter expert of electrical distribution systems within the Nuclear Robotics team.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or similar field; OR 6+ years electrical design experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in harness design and development.
  • Experience with Mentor Capital, Zuken E3, SolidWorks electrical, or similar harness design software.
  • Low voltage power distribution experience.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience in electronics design, systems engineering, or distributed controls systems.
  • Experience with large scale harness development for automotive, aerospace, marine, or nuclear systems.
  • Experience with High Voltage Systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in electrical architecture make vs. buy trades.
  • Experience designing fault-tolerant and safety critical hardware.
  • Very comfortable in fast-paced environments with ability to multi-task effectively.

What We Do

Radiant is a clean energy startup building a nuclear microreactor. A climate-friendly alternative to diesel generators, Radiant's Kaleidos 1MW microreactor will be the world's first portable, zero-emissions power source that works anywhere. We plan to test our development reactor by 2026 and if successful, it will be the first new commercial reactor design to achieve a fueled test in over 50 years. Our microreactor can bring power to remote parts of the world and provide backup power for life-saving applications in hospitals or disaster-relief scenarios.

Why Work With Us

Our world-class team has prior experience in complex hardware development from SpaceX, McMaster, The Boring Company, and renowned national laboratories that define our mentality to radically improve our microreactors. We care deeply about our mission to reduce carbon emissions, and have fun while doing so from trivia nights to ski retreats.
