The Opportunity

The Senior Hardware Verification Engineer – Technical Lead will be responsible to technically lead a team that will plan, organize and execute verification & validation (V&V) tasks to support the Implants & Sound Processor Development department. Coupled with maintaining the compliance of products to international standards and regulations.

The Technical Lead will champion clear and regular communication between global and local (CMY) teams. Furthermore, they will be a leader of change by identifying and championing improvements in Cochlear's Verification processes and Procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Accountability 1: Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical training and guidance to team members.

  • Contribute to team morale, identity, and purpose by ensuring the team is following Cochlear’s procedures and processes.

  • Be the point of contact between CMY and CLTD.

  • Write high quality verification reports and other documents and ensure team members are doing the same.

  • Meet regularly with the R&D design engineers at various sites (e.g. CLTD, CGS etc) to understand verification priorities and timelines.

  • Regularly report status and progress to stakeholders in R&D.

  • Identify improvements in verification processes and how the remote teams collaborate and discuss these with stakeholders in R&D

  • Collaborate closely with the System V&V and Returned Devices team at CMY, building a strong working relationship between the teams.

  • Collaborate closely with the Product Lifecycle Engineering team (CLTD, CGS) on work relating to sustaining engineering activities for our commercial product portfolio.

  • Collaborate with and manage external vendors when necessary.

  • Responsible for project deliverable for the team.

Accountability 2: Verification and documentation

  • Plan verification activities and collaborate with the design engineers to understand verification priorities and timelines.

  • Train and guide team members to execute and report on verification methods and processes.

  • Review and correct work done by the team to ensure they follow all relevant procedures and protocols.

  • Execute verification and write reports when needed.

  • Collaborate with the design engineers to develop test methods, design test equipment, and write test plans and protocols.

  • Ensure all verification results are appropriately recorded and having constant collaboration with the design engineers to debug problems encountered during testing.

Accountability 3: Manage verification discipline and processes

  • Use judgment and experience to assist the team with decisions and overcome challenges related to day-to-day verification activities.

  • Proactively identify and lead changes to process improvements, collaborating closely with design engineers, introducing automation etc.

  • Follow all applicable development processes and methodologies. These may be part of internal policies, applicable international standards, applicable regulatory requirements and/or specific team processes.

Essential Requirements:

  • Completed minimum Bachelor's in Electrical, Microelectronics, Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent.

  • At least five (5) years’ experience in product hardware verification, e.g. consumer products, medical devices, computer hardware, semiconductors, automotive, defence or other regulated industry with exposure working within MNC (multi-national corporation) organization.

  • Demonstrated technical leadership experience in leading a team of effective engineers.

  • Experience managing external verification partners, either domestically or internationally with excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English.

  • Experience with Verification & Validation principles and standards.

  • Experience using collaborative software tools e.g., JIRA, Confluence, Windchill or equivalent.

  • Certification/s in leadership, project management or other relevant areas.

  • Possess excellent hands-on practical experience in debugging and verification skills.

  • Demonstrated experience with automation of test and verification.

  • Knowledge of scripting languages, e.g. Python would be highly desirable.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software programs.

  • Strong interest in medical device development or safety-critical applications and associated quality regulations.

  • Experience in product certification process for global markets.

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with proven record of multi-tasking.

  • Follow relevant quality procedures to deliver quality products and services and identify and support the implementation of continuous improvement.

  • Undertake additional quality responsibilities (e.g. audit) when appropriately trained to undertake these responsibilities.

  • Contribute ideas on systems and process methods to improve deliverables.

  • Work safely, complying with all safety procedures, rules and instructions, and reporting workplace hazards, incidents, or injuries to manager.
