How You Will Contribute:
As a Software Systems Architect with the Ciena Optical Networks System Design Architecture team you will play a crucial role designing complex networking solutions that meets the current and future needs of our customers. In this role you will work closely with a cross-functional team to support the evolution of our existing product portfolio and the development of new, next generation products.
Responsibilities
Product Design
Work with Product Line Management (PLM) to define the initial set of requirements for a customer specific request or new general market need
Work with the various design teams while iterating through the possible hardware architectures to address the requirements and present the design tradeoffs of the various options
Define the solution requirements in sufficient detail for design teams to implement the design; outputs include both high level specifications as well as detailed requirements
Define the object modeling with a specific focus on datapath functionality, ensuring adherence to standards such as OTN.
Provide support to hardware and software design teams during the design phase
Product Integration
Provide input into hardware characterization, software integration, system test and product verification test plans as required
Provide support to design teams to resolve issues that arise during testing
Execute or guide the execution of the system level test plan
Customer Interaction
Create product supporting documentation for PLM to describe new technologies, solutions, and product designs to customers
Present to customer account teams and customers as required
Provide support when field issues are escalated to the design teams
Cross-functional Support and Alignment
Ensure the design teams are aligned with the proposed solution and understand the requirements to implement the design
Ensure the management team is informed about any issues that arise during product design and integration that require escalation
Ensure PLM are informed about any roadblocks that arise during product design and integration that may require changes to the product definition
The Must Haves:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience or interest in system design in the telecommunications industry
Experience with software design, testing, and validation
Strong experience in defining and implementing object modeling - including open standards
Familiarity with industry-standard modeling languages such as YANG, UML, or XML
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think critically and propose innovative solutions.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
Self-motivated and able to work independently
Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Knowledge of optical networking technologies and protocols (DWDM, SONET/SDH)
Pay Range:
The annual pay range for this position is $110,900 - $177,100 CAD.

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.
Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
