About Density:
Density’s mission is to measure and improve our footprint on the world.
We help companies understand how their workplaces are used. We do that by observing behavior in the office through our highly accurate and always anonymous sensors. In other words: where are people actually spending their time? We translate that data into actionable, opinionated insights that help companies increase the financial and experiential performance of any workplace.
Today, we work with companies from Fortune 500s to high growth innovators in technology, financial services and healthcare, occupying more than a billion square feet worldwide. And we’re in it for the long game: what if we knew more, created better spaces, and could build cities that worked and felt better?
That’s where you come in...
The Opportunity:
We are looking for a strong, independent Hardware design engineer to be responsible for new embedded hardware design and sustaining engineering for our current products. You will be responsible for end-to-end hardware designs including architecture, schematic, and layout. Low-level embedded software skills are a bonus. You should love hacking dev kits together to prove concepts, arguing over how many vias to use to shield your RF traces, debugging system integration gremlins, and seeing the board boot for the first time at the factory.
In this role you will:
- Lead the design and development of our hardware, owning the detailed part selection and PCB design from concept to production, ensuring system-level integration across various components.
- Collaborate with software, mechanical, and industrial design teams to ensure cohesive product development and optimization.
- Perform system-level troubleshooting and problem-solving to ensure robust and reliable hardware performance.
- Design and develop complex analog and digital circuits, including schematic capture and PCB layout.
- Conduct simulations and analysis to validate circuit designs and ensure compliance with specifications.
- Work with manufacturing partners to develop and refine prototypes and production units.
- Develop and execute test plans to verify hardware functionality, reliability, and performance.
- Propose and implement innovative design solutions to enhance product performance and user experience.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in hardware design engineering, with a focus on system integration in consumer electronics.
- Proficiency in electronic design automation (EDA) tools such as Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, or similar.
- Strong knowledge of circuit design principles, signal integrity, power management, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and debug complex hardware issues.
- Experience with embedded systems, microcontrollers, and communication protocols (e.g., I2C, SPI, UART).
- Experience modifying embedded software and debugging low-level SW/FW -> Hardware issues
- Excellent project management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, in-person, cross-functional team environment.

What We Do
At Density, we believe cities would look different if they knew how they were used. Understanding our relationship with physical space empowers us to reimagine what the built environment can be.
11,370 new buildings are being built every day and 39% of global carbon emissions come from existing buildings. If we want to build a more productive, sustainable future, we have to measure all those buildings. We work with the Fortune 1000 to measure and improve their offices, buildings, and portfolios. Density’s data creates more efficient and productive workplaces for people and the planet.
We’re on a mission to measure and improve our footprint on the world.
