Job Description

As Senior Group Corporate Counsel, you will play a key role in supporting the Head of Legal and partnering with stakeholders across the business to provide trusted legal and regulatory advice. You will help shape commercial outcomes by managing complex legal matters, drafting and negotiating a broad range of agreements, and ensuring the organisation operates within a robust legal and compliance framework.

Acting as a strategic advisor, you will work closely with business leaders, external legal partners, and key stakeholders to identify risks, solve problems, and deliver practical, commercially focused legal solutions that support Cuscal's growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a wide range of legal issues with the business
  • Provision of expert legal advice and guidance to Cuscal's business units and various subsidiaries in respect of all legal and regulatory matters and policies
  • Liaising with Cuscal's external legal providers including briefing of matters and advice and assisting in the general management of such resources
  • Attending to drafting of deeds, agreements and other legal documentation and advising on the most appropriate course of action
  • Participation in contract negotiations (including major contracts), including formal negotiation, development of strategy and tactical advice as and when required
  • Manage external legal budgets
  • Support business planning and forecasting processes.
  • Provide guidance and advice to on compliance matters
  • Assist the business units to achieve a compliance culture and consistent compliance with regulatory and legal frameworks

Qualifications

  • Experience providing financial services regulatory legal and compliance advice 
  • Experience with the review and negotiation of commercial contracts in an in-house setting
  • Comprehensive knowledge and application of relevant Acts, legal and regulatory requirements and ethical standards within a financial services context 
  • Proven track record of providing sound commercially based legal advice
  • In-house experience in Financial Services or Banking Industry will be highly regarded 
  • Experience in an ASX-listed company preferred 
  • Conversant with financial services legal and regulatory environment
  • Sound working knowledge of AML/CTF, Corporations Act Chapter 7, APRA Prudential Standards, Privacy and other relevant Codes.
