ABOUT THE ROLE
Our Senior Designer collaborates closely with art directors, photographers, videographers, designers, and writers, and works with Product Management, UX, Tech, Merchandising and Marketing teams to make fun, elevated, compelling designs—all while fearlessly dreaming up big ideas. Day to day, this role will focus on crafting on-brand communications, across all our channels, including catalog, email, social media and homepage. A successful Senior Designer can step back and see the whole picture, where everything connects—and can zoom in to finesse the tiniest details! Being comfortable collaborating with others—from our writers and marketing team to product and tech teams and not considering something complete until the kerning is just right. Knowing when to be flexible, but always maintain high standards for original concepts and detailed executions. A love for visual storytelling, branding, experimenting with new ideas, and driving the UncommonGoods brand forward is needed!
This hybrid role works on-site at our waterfront Brooklyn location 2 days per week.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Concept and design multi-channel campaigns that will live across catalog, homepage, social and email, includes determining which photographs, illustration or other design elements to use.
- Collaborate with production designers and our photo team to design the catalog: manage developing layouts, brainstorming photo direction, figuring out graphic treatments, looking at crop and type details.
- Assist with branding projects by designing packaging, mailers and logos.
- Manage, produce, and share multiple design and art solutions to a creative brief or project.
- Coordinate with other internal departments (marketing) as well as external vendors (printers).
- Research inspiration and stay on top of relevant trends and the competitive landscape
- Collaborate with other creative team members to ensure consistency across platforms and assets.
- Work closely, building great relationships, with cross-functional partners in product management, merchandising, and marketing to define and understand seasonal strategies and campaigns in order to develop concepts, designs, and art direction to support the strategy.
- Be a proactive problem solver by seeking out opportunities to better our visual communication and design.
- Work closely with Creative Director, Design Director and Chief Brand Officer.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of design experience—background in e-commerce and retail is a plus.
- Degree in Graphic Design—preferred, but not vital if experience and portfolio warrant.
- High-level of taste and visual aesthetics.
- Express a strong command of typography, layout, form and color.
- Experience working on brand style guides and producing brand marketing assets is desirable.
- Ability to give and receive honest and thoughtful feedback.
- Be immersed and knowledgeable in design trends, current and past.
- Be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, Figma/FigJam and Sketch.
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently, balance multiple projects, contribute to a team effort and deliver on individual responsibilities.
- Have an open, positive and collaborative communication style, as well as be solution oriented.
- Be flexible and comfortable with change.
- Strong desire to push the Uncommon Goods visual brand forward.

This position's annual base salary range is $80k - $90k. This role is eligible for our annual performance bonus program and options.
