The Sr. GIS Analyst will advise on the strategic direction and lead the project management and reporting for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) programs and processes as they pertain to Enviva’s Sustainability team and the company’s greater mission of sustainable and responsible biomass sourcing.
The Sr. GIS Analyst primary responsibility will be to maintain and enhance the Track & Trace® and biomass supply chain geospatial management and monitoring systems. This will include managing and improving the Track & Trace geodatabases, Enviva’s geospatial data, and enterprise GIS platform, and leading GIS/RS project management and/or monitoring system for external Track & Trace users.
The Sr. GIS Specialist will help set the vision and scope and lead project management of GIS and RS projects in fulfillment of Enviva’s Responsible Sourcing Policy. This will include identifying opportunities, developing solutions, project management of third-party contractor work, performing complex analysis, effectively communicating project outcomes, and leading development of reports for internal and external consumption.
As the geospatial subject matter expert, the Sr. GIS Analyst is responsible for research and implementation of new geospatial technology, applications, and solutions, helping Enviva to scale efficiently and be an innovative leader within the biomass industry. The Sr. GIS Analyst will report to the Senior Manager of Sustainability.
Responsibilities
Track & Trace and Biomass Supply Chain Data Management and Monitoring
- Manage Track & Trace geodatabases and other geospatial data, including data organization and backup
- Advise and develop methods for improving data management and monitoring
- Leading geospatial project management and monitoring for potential external users of Track & Trace
- Manage online and enterprise GIS, including data, applications, analyses, users, roles, and storage
- Train associates on GIS platforms and tasks as necessary
GIS and Remote Sensing Analyses for Public Reporting
- Lead in identification of geospatial opportunities pertaining to Enviva’s Responsible Sourcing Policy
- Help set strategy for transparency and reporting requests under Enviva’s RSP
- Manage relationships and projects with subject matter expert vendors
- Perform high level geospatial analyses, such as HCV expansion sourcing impacts
- Communicate findings and options to internal stakeholders
- Lead preparation of internal and external reports
Develop New Methods and Approaches to expand use of GIS and Remote Sensing at Enviva
- Research new technology, investigate new geospatial applications, and advise on technical solutions
- Advise on Track & Trace technical improvements
- Develop with partners new applications of GIS & RS for RSP monitoring to answer industry-wide forest management and sustainability concerns
- Work with internal IT and third parties for expansion of applications of our geospatial data
- Develop mapping projects for other teams (Communications, Corp Dev, etc.) and advise on implementation
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geospatial Analysis, Geography, or related field is required.
- 4-7 years of GIS experience utilizing esri ArcPro and ArcGIS Online required
- Demonstrated experience in computer language scripting for workflow automation.
- 1+ years working with Remote Sensing software and workflows
- Proficient in geodatabase management, design, and development, including metadata record management
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Power BI
- Experience with field data collection process development and training preferred
- Familiarity with SQL, relational databases, and data visualization applications, including esri Story Maps, desirable
- Database management

- Familiarity with forestry and/or forest ecology in the US, especially in the US South
- Strong communications and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines and high intensity work environment

Preferred Qualifications - What Will Set You Apart
- Master’s degree in GIS, Geospatial Analysis, Geography, or related field.
- Experience with Python, R, and/or Arcade.
Travel requirements
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
Working Conditions
- Must be able to work in outdoor environments and occasionally in temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees
- Willing and able to work in a hot, humid, cold and noisy industrial environment
- Willing and able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, to include wearing safety equipment.

- Primarily computer-based work requiring extended periods of sitting at a computer, typing, but may also include standing, walking, carrying, or lifting (up to 50 lbs.) in support of team tasks
