As our new Senior Geophysical Research Engineer, you will play a key role in researching and developing geophysical and geotechnical investigation techniques. The Role

We are seeking a Senior Geophysical Research Engineer to lead seismic research and development and support our team of project geophysicists. This role involves improving processing, imaging, and data analysis techniques for near-surface geophysics. The Senior Geophysical Research Engineer will also collaborate with the Technical Manager to assess business needs and secure internal funding for research projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead R&D efforts focused on improving geophysical processing algorithms and software tools, with an emphasis on near-surface geophysics;

• Collaborate with project geophysicists to understand technical challenges and develop software-based solutions that improve geophysical acquisition and processing workflows;

• Work alongside the Technical Manager to assess business needs, ensuring that R&D efforts align with the company’s strategic objectives;

• Maintain and optimize existing geophysical processing code to ensure performance, scalability, and relevance to ongoing and future projects;

• Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies and algorithms into existing software platforms to enhance seismic data quality and processing efficiency;

• Build and submit business cases for internal funding to support research projects, providing detailed justifications, cost analyses, and projected benefits;

• Contribute to technical publications, reports, and presentations to showcase R&D efforts both internally and externally;

• Provide technical support and guidance to project geophysicists, ensuring the application of R&D solutions within ongoing trials and projects.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Geophysics, Physics, Computational Science or a related field, with a focus on geophysical data processing and software development;

• Extensive experience in R&D, particularly in developing and implementing geophysical algorithms using compiled languages;

• Proven track record of building and submitting successful business cases to secure funding for research projects;

• Deep understanding of geophysical acquisition, data processing, and imaging techniques, with an emphasis on R&D applications for high-resolution seismic data;

• Strong problem-solving and adaptability skills to tackle complex technical challenges;

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with cross-functional teams of developers and geophysicists;

• Ability to manage R&D projects from concept to implementation.
