As part of the “Future Projects and R&T” team within the “Engineering Integration & Chief Engineering” department, you will be in charge to evaluate new disruptive regional aircraft concepts and enhancements of ATR current platform, contributing to the roadmap of ATR future products. Incremental evolutions of the current ATR platforms will be selected based on market assessments and competition forecasts with the aim to improve operational competitiveness and reduce carbon footprint.

New ambitious targets for aviation emissions combined with an ongoing rise of air traffic demand motivate the research for cleaner propulsion systems and more sustainable way of flying. As leader of the regional market, ATR fuel-efficient turboprop products are poised to become the next candidates in line to benefit from disruptive technologies relying on alternative power sources. In order to test the competitive advantages, new aircraft concepts relying on electric architectures and/or alternative fuels (SAF, hydrogen…) will have to be better assessed and understood.

Based on joint studies & tests performed with key industrial partners, your tasks will consist in evaluating the potential of innovative architectures and technologies, performing technical studies on conceptual aircraft design, configuration development and aircraft integration during the early phase of the aircraft design and leading when applicable the technical demonstrators associated.

You will work in coordination within Engineering Center of Competencies, Program, Commercial, Suppliers, Partners, and Institutional  entities.

Task & accountabilities:

In order to assess the potential of conventional and new aircraft concepts, your tasks will consist in:

  • Carry out preliminary design studies on future aircraft projects to support the “go or no go ahead” decision process to enter the project feasibility phase.
  • Manage the Aircraft technical descriptions and aircraft specifications for new projects.
  • Lead, inside the Engineering directorate, large multidisciplinary projects involving more than one Center of Competences (CoC), in early phases (in general prior to MG3)
  • Perform preliminary analyses to support Research programs, Marketing studies for product positioning and competition analysis.
  • Analyze the requirements coming from the Program or/and Marketing in order to assess the impact at aircraft level and verify the suitability of different engineering solutions to match the given requirement and support Product policy studies.
  • Develop the ATR Handbook/Process and new Tools (if any required) to conduct a structured Preliminary Projects
  • Contribute, in cooperation with OxD Chief Engineering and Center of Competencies, to the preparation of the ATR Product Dev Strategy
  • Coordinate, under the lead of HO EIX, the ATR technical activities required for the Technical Demonstrator , pending related project is  launched
  • Acts on behalf of HO EIX for specific tasks, to be defined on a case-by-case
  • Presenting and reporting the progresses made on research projects and preliminary design activities to top-level management, ATR internal customers and Public Institutions

Required skills:
You will have the following skills and experience:

  • Strong aeronautical background
  • Strong knowledge in overall aircraft design (OAD), aerodynamics, flight performances and systems integration
  • At least 10 years of significant experience in preliminary aircraft design,
  • Proven experience in chief engineering and in leading a technical demonstrator
  • Good knowledge of aircraft design tools
  • Knowledge in electrical systems and alternative fuels (SAF, Hydrogen)
  • Knowledge in hybrid and electrical propulsion system architectures
  • Autonomous with negotiation communication skills
  • Innovation, creative thinking
  • Advanced level in English and French
