About the Role

As a Staff Functional Safety and Compliance Engineer, you will lead functional safety design and compliance initiatives of robotic systems for North America, European and Japanese markets. The ideal candidate will have an in-depth understanding of applicable industry standards, such as ANSI/RIA R15.06, ANSI/RIA R15.08, ISO10218, UL508A, and IEC60204. You will take a key role in Dexterity’s scale and global expansion by designing and implementing safe and compliant solutions.


Responsibilities:

Guide and direct compliance efforts for robotic systems in accordance with relevant standards, for global markets (North America, Europe, and Japan).

Develop and execute plans to demonstrate and maintain compliance with standards, working with 3rd party testing labs as necessary (NRTL, EMC labs, consultants, etc.).

Read and interpret governing standards and technical documentation.

Offer subject matter expertise regarding industry standards and regulations.

Guide product and development teams on the requirements and design of conforming products.

Architect functional safety systems, and guide the hands-on work.

Implement functional safety engineering solutions including component selection (such as laser scanners, light curtains, PLC controllers, safety controllers, and other safety-related equipment), meeting Functional safety requirements, PLC programming, etc.

Guide engineers on systems design and conduct design reviews.

Create test plans to ensure functional safety systems are designed and assembled to specification.

Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and tools for training, troubleshooting, and maintaining functional safety systems in customers' sites at scale.

Collaborate with HW design partners and vendors to ensure that integrated systems will comply with all applicable standards and regulations.

Stay up-to-date with the latest safety and compliance trends, regulations, and technologies.

Participate in industrial systems and control panels electrical schematics design reviews to ensure compliance with domestic and international regulations.

Conduct educational sessions on functional safety and compliance topics for interdisciplinary teams.



Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or related engineering field.

8+ years of relevant experience in functional safety and compliance in the automation or manufacturing industry.

In-depth knowledge of ANSI B.11 Machine guarding standards and OSHA requirements for General Industry.

In-depth knowledge of domestic and international standards such as ANSI/RIA R15.06, ANSI/RIA R15.08, ISO10218, ISO12100, ISO13849, NFPA70, UL508A, and IEC60204.

In-depth knowledge of CE directives such as the Machinery Regulation and EMC Directive. 

Professional certification in functional safety or compliance (e.g. CFSE, CMSE, CECE, etc.) is highly preferred.

Experience leading or managing cross-functional teams on large-scale automation or safety compliance projects.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including communicating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Experience with programming languages such as Structured Text, Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagrams, etc. 

Familiarity with safety communication protocols, such as PROFINET, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, MODBUS, etc.

Familiarity with functional safety components and leading market vendors.

Strong project management skills, including the ability to develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and resources.

Proven ability to work independently and take ownership of projects, as well as collaborate effectively in a team environment.

Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed (up to 15%).



Base pay is one element of our Total Rewards package which may also include comprehensive benefits and equity etc., depending on eligibility. The annual base salary range for this position is from $160,000 to $195,000. The actual base pay offered will be determined on factors such as years of relevant experience, skills, education etc. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
