We’re a global team of over 400 people, working together to push the boundaries of open-source technology and multi-cloud solutions. Our vision is to become the trusted Data & AI Platform for everyone, leveraging the most popular open-source technologies like Apache Kafka®, Aiven for PostgreSQL®, Aiven for Clickhouse®, and Aiven for OpenSearch®. to help companies accelerate time-to-market, drive efficiency, and build innovative solutions across any cloud. Right now, we’re looking for a Senior Fullstack Engineer to join our team who shares our passion for forward-thinking and innovative approaches.
About this team
Aiven Unify’s mission is simple: help customers quickly discover, govern, and query their data—delivering value in minutes, not months.
Our first step is building a managed, single-tenant metadata discovery and governance service that automatically pulls in metadata from Aiven services and aligns Aiven Teams/roles with catalog policies.
Who we are
So, how do we become the trusted open source data platform for everyone? By listening closely to our customers and taking action to ensure they achieve their business goals. You see, the software we create is merely a means of delivering value. Our thinking is customer-first. That’s why our customers are at the front and center of all we do. And in the spirit of sideways thinking, we’re by their side as well. Actively helping them solve their challenges. Collaborating. Sharing. And innovating. In other words, it really isn’t just about who we are. It’s about who our customers are – and where they want to be.
The Role:
We’re building a set of new managed Aiven services that will enable seamless discovery, governance, and access to data. To make this work seamlessly for customers, we need the Aiven Console (our web UI) to guide setup, configuration, and governance.
We’re looking for a Senior Fullstack Engineer who’s excited to work across backend and frontend. You’ll build services, APIs, and ingestion pipelines while also driving the Console experience that makes this product easy to adopt and use.
What You'll Do:
- Launch new managed open-source services, delivering new ways for customers to interact with data and Aiven.
- Work across the stack, delivering end-to-end functionality across:
- Backend: Python, REST, Java
- Frontend: React for user-facing features and visualizations.
- Shape the customer experience in the Aiven Console — design and implement UI flows that make configuring and managing metadata services simple and intuitive.
- Extend and evolve backend services that power ingestion, metadata indexing, and policy enforcement.
- Collaborate with design and product teams to build clear, usable, and secure interfaces for metadata discovery, policies, and governance.
- Integrate identity and access controls (RBAC/ABAC) across backend and frontend layers, ensuring both usability and compliance.
- Ensure operability and reliability by writing observable, testable, and maintainable code that supports zero-downtime deployments.
- Work closely with platform and infrastructure teams to ensure APIs, services, and the Console fit seamlessly together.
What We're Looking For:
- Proven experience as a Full Stack Engineer with strong backend expertise and solid frontend capability.
- Knowledge of data systems such as PostgreSQL/MySQL, OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, and Kafka.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, Terraform, and cloud networking fundamentals.
- Experience of building and launching managed services.
- Strong product intuition - you care about UX and enjoy turning complex systems into approachable tools.
- A security-first mindset - you design with policies, auditability, and compliance in mind.
Nice to have:
- Previous experience at early-stage startups.
- Exposure to AI workflows integrated into production software.
- Prior contributions to open-source projects
- Experience with identity and access management (SSO, RBAC/ABAC) in SaaS environments.
Don’t worry if your experience doesn’t line up perfectly – we still encourage you to apply! We believe in investing in our crabs’ professional growth.
