Department Overview

WDTech is W&D’s in-house technology team – a diverse group of energetic and highly skilled technology professionals, all of whom are leading experts in real estate data, data science, and technology.

The Impact You Will Have

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining our client facing products. You will be working on a range of applications and services that will provide our clients with the data and insights they seek. As a data company, our applications are read-heavy where the challenge is to provide a large body of insights in a useful, visually engaging and concise manner.

Primary Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and ensure the quality of code in new and existing web application product lines

• Actively participate in the full software development lifecycle from ideation and planning through to development, testing, customer feedback and further iterations

• Proactively suggest improvements across the whole stack

• Build and maintain our web application tech stack of PHP + Laravel, Vue.js, PostgreSQL, Redis and whatever else is required to get the job done

• Collaborate with Product Owners, Data Engineers, Data Scientists to expose data through the web application

• Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s or master’s, preferably in computer science or related field

• Extensive JavaScript experience with React.js or Vue.js

• Experience working with map and location libraries (eg. Mapbox)

• Experience working with queues, task runners, scheduled jobs and caching

• Experience developing SaaS style applications and/or public APIs

• Experience with Amazon Web Services, Event Sourcing and/or Domain Driven Design (DDD), data visualization, building client facing data applications, and in the real-estate domain is a plus.

• Active member of the Open Source community is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Deep knowledge of PHP (7.0 and later) and Laravel (7.0 and later)

• Deep knowledge of testing at all levels, from unit testing to end-to-end

• Strong agile mindset, able to iterate fast and give early feedback

• Desire and eagerness to contribute to the success of the company and grow along with it

• Excellent communication skills in verbal and written English

• Ability to show ownership of your work, take on challenges and acknowledge growth opportunities, and demonstrate patience when learning new processes

• Courtesy, respect, and thoughtfulness in teaming with colleagues and other stakeholders
