CoreWeave is expanding its firmware engineering organization to support next-generation AI compute platforms and the integrated firmware stack that powers them.
As a Senior Firmware Engineer, FPGA & Platform Integration, you will design, implement, validate, and maintain FPGA-based platform functionality while ensuring clean integration with BMC firmware, BIOS, and hardware platforms deployed across CoreWeave’s data centers.
You will work independently on complex technical problems, partner closely with hardware, firmware, and systems teams, and help define best practices for platform reliability, observability, and maintainability.
Some of what you’ll work on:
- FPGA development – design, implement, and maintain FPGA logic for server-class or embedded platform functions, with a strong emphasis on Intel/Altera-based devices using Quartus.
- Platform integration – define and implement interfaces between FPGA logic and adjacent platform components including BMC firmware, BIOS, CPLDs, sensors, control paths, and board management functions.
- Bring-up and validation – support early hardware enablement, board bring-up, and validation across multiple hardware revisions and lab environments.
- Cross-layer debugging – diagnose complex issues spanning FPGA logic, firmware, BIOS, hardware interfaces, and operating systems using appropriate lab and debug tools.
- Performance and reliability – improve platform robustness, fault handling, telemetry, and operational behavior for production deployments at scale.
- Vendor collaboration – work directly with ODMs, silicon vendors, and firmware partners to review implementations, define requirements, and drive fixes or enhancements.
- Automation and test – contribute to repeatable validation workflows, regression coverage, and tooling for FPGA and platform firmware testing.
- Documentation – create and maintain clear technical documentation for FPGA architecture, interfaces, design assumptions, test procedures, and operational considerations.
- Technical leadership – participate in design reviews, mentor other engineers, and help raise the overall quality of firmware and platform integration work across the team.
- 5+ years of professional experience in firmware, embedded systems, or FPGA development for server-class, platform, or embedded systems.
- Hands-on professional experience developing with Intel/Altera FPGA devices.
- Strong proficiency in Verilog or SystemVerilog for RTL development.
- Strong proficiency in C or C++ for low-level firmware, embedded software, or platform integration work.
- Experience with board bring-up, hardware validation, and system-level debugging.
- Familiarity with common hardware interfaces and protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, GPIO, PCIe, or related platform control paths.
- Experience in using hardware schematics, design specifications, and device datasheets for embedded development.
- Experience debugging interactions across FPGA, firmware, BIOS, and hardware layers.
- Comfort working in Linux environments with Git-based development workflows.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to break down complex cross-layer failures.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across hardware, firmware, software, QA, and vendor teams.
- Experience integrating FPGA functionality with BMC firmware, BIOS, CPLDs, or other platform management components.
- Experience with LTPI or similar platform communication and management interfaces.
- Experience with platform management technologies such as Redfish, IPMI, SMBus, or related server management interfaces.
- Experience with server hardware, data center platforms, or hyperscale infrastructure environments.
- Familiarity with lab tools and techniques such as logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, JTAG, signal capture, or board-level debug workflows.
- Experience scripting in Python or Bash for validation, automation, or test tooling.
- Experience reviewing or influencing vendor-delivered platform or firmware implementations.
- Prior ownership of firmware or FPGA features deployed into production environments at scale.
