- Understands sales and use tax compliance principles in all states and local jurisdictions.
- Researches and prepares work papers and prepares data for sales and use tax returns.
- Calculates use tax and reviews and oversees the filing of sales and use tax returns.
- Reconciles financial statement accounts in accordance with monthly, quarterly, and yearly reporting deadlines.
- Coordinates, prepares, and manages sales and use tax audits, including direct interaction with auditors and works to mitigate assessments.
- Works with locations to assist in sales tax needs, including exemption certificates, resale certificates, and related questions.
- Researches and understands industry-specific sales tax exemptions and laws related to the agricultural industry.
- Oversees the filing of business licenses, annual reports, and other miscellaneous taxes for Helena and its subsidiaries.
- Oversees the registration of new locations at the state and local level.
- Researches and responds to inquiries from leadership.
- Assists with other duties as needed including property taxes, fertilizer fee reporting, income and franchise taxes, unclaimed property, and special projects.
- Provides guidance and oversight within the sales tax function, including review of work and support of team members.
- Helps ensure deadlines are met and processes are followed consistently.
- May be required to drive a company vehicle.
- Provides excellent customer service to all internal and external customers.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is required.
- Five years of related work experience is required.
- Sales and use tax experience preferred.
- CPA, CMA, MBA, or public accounting tax experience is preferred.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to work in a team environment and act as an integral part of the team.
- Self-starter with the ability to prioritize and work on multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel are required.
- Knowledge of Oracle General Ledger, Vertex (or similar tax software), and RIA Checkpoint is preferred.
- Ability to travel up to two weeks per year is required.
- Valid U.S. driver's license is required to drive a company vehicle. Must be able to meet all company requirements to drive a Helena vehicle.
- Ability to read, write and speak in English is required.
- Communicating in Spanish is a valuable skill at Helena.
