Position Summary

Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for the integrity of the hospital's financial operations, accounting records, financial reporting, budgeting, reimbursement analysis, internal controls, and audit readiness. This position provides leadership for accounting functions while serving as a key financial advisor to executive leadership. The role ensures compliance with federal, state, county, grant, Medicare, Medicaid, and governmental accounting requirements while protecting hospital assets and supporting the mission of providing high-quality healthcare services to the community.

The Senior Financial Analyst supports operational and strategic decision-making through accurate financial analysis, reporting, forecasting, and performance measurement. This position is expected to identify financial risks, recommend corrective actions, and promote a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.

Essential Financial Management Responsibilities

1. Maintain the integrity of the hospital general ledger and financial reporting systems;

2. Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements;

3. Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), governmental accounting standards, and applicable healthcare regulations;

4. Develop and maintain internal accounting controls designed to safeguard hospital assets;

5. Oversee account reconciliations and balance sheet verification processes;

6. Review and approve journal entries and supporting documentation;

7. Maintain accounting policies and procedures;

8. Monitor cash flow, investments, debt obligations, and liquidity requirements;

9. Assist executive leadership with strategic financial planning and decision support;

10. Coordinate annual financial statement audits and external reviews;

11. Serve as the primary accounting contact for external auditors, consultants, and governmental agencies;

12. Recommend and implement operational and financial process improvements.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field;

2. Five years of progressively responsible accounting or financial analysis experience;

3. Three years of healthcare finance or healthcare accounting experience;

4. Experience preparing financial statements and reconciliations;

5. Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis;

6. Candidate must possess, or be actively tracking toward, a master's-level degree. Preferred degrees include Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) or Master of Science in Accounting (MSA); a Master of Business Administration (MBA) is acceptable but secondary to the preferred degree paths.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Certified Public Accountant (CPA);

2. Certified Management Accountant (CMA);

3. Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or Business Administration;

4. Critical Access Hospital experience;

5. Medicare cost report experience;

6. Governmental or public-sector accounting experience;

7. Experience with healthcare ERP, payroll, and financial reporting systems;

8. Experience developing financial dashboards and operational analytics.

Required Regulatory Knowledge

The successful candidate shall demonstrate working knowledge of:

1. Critical Access Hospital reimbursement methodology;

2. Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement systems;

3. CMS regulations and guidance;

4. Medicare cost reporting principles;

5. Governmental accounting standards;

6. GASB requirements;

7. GAAP requirements;

8. HIPAA requirements;

9. Federal and State grant administration requirements;

10. OIG compliance guidance;

11. Healthcare internal controls and audit principles;

12. Federal and Utah healthcare regulatory requirements;

13. Public-sector financial accountability standards.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Advanced knowledge of healthcare accounting principles;

2. Advanced understanding of Critical Access Hospital reimbursement methodologies;

3. Strong understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance reimbursement, and cost reporting;

4. Strong knowledge of governmental accounting practices;

5. Advanced financial modeling and analytical skills;

6. Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis;

7. Experience preparing audited financial statements;

8. Strong knowledge of internal controls and audit requirements;

9. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including PivotTables, Power Query, financial modeling, data analysis, and artificial intelligence integration;

10. Ability to analyze complex financial information and communicate findings clearly;

11. Strong written and verbal communication skills;

12. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously;

13. Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
