As a member of the MFL Corporate Management team reporting to the Manager, Financial Accounting, the Senior Financial Accountant (SFA) works with the team to ensure the accurate and timely preparation and completion of annual, quarterly and financial information for MFL Corporate Division and the 12 smaller holding companies.
Accounting responsibilities include banking, intercompany accounts receivable and payable, general accounting and financial planning estimates. Other responsibilities include support for investment recording, intercompany loans, foreign exchange and liaison for external audit. This role requires high attention to detail, high ethical standards and the ability to clearly communicate financial information in an accessible manner.
How You'll Add Value:
- Partner with the team to ensure accurate and timely completion of financial reporting requirements (monthly, quarterly and yearly) in accordance with Company accounting standards, and corporate requirements.
- Work with a shared service team to ensure accurate and timely posting of financial transactions.
- Review and approve journal entries submitted for posting for various financial transactions.
- Maintenance of assigned areas of the general ledger and sub-ledger to ensure correct account posting, journal entries, accrual.
- Oversee monthly intercompany AR/AP reconciliation and coordinate adjustments as needed, including complex transactions with MFL's largest intercompany partner, McCain Foods Canada.
- Accounting and invoicing and/or review for centralized programs: Management, GIS and R&D Fees, Insurance, and Air Services.
- Oversee intercompany payment process and ensure accurate accounting.
- Assist with management of fixed, intangible, and leased assets to ensure compliance with capitalization and amortization guidelines.
- Assist with coordination of annual external audit, schedules, internal coordination, documentation and review for timely successful audit.
- Provide finance support for Global functions, including adhoc reporting and analysis.
- Review validity of financial transactions of select cost centers and request adjustments where necessary.
- Help implement continuous improvement processes to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
- Prepare and/or review process documentation for department activities.
- Prepare and process quarterly estimates for 10 smaller holding companies.
- Perform ad-hoc tasks as assigned by the manager.
About You:
- BS in Accounting or Finance, CPA preferred
- 3+ years of progressive experience in Accounting and Finance
- Strong technical, analytical and systems skills
- As a self-starter, ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to build partnerships to meet share objectives
- Solid oral and written communication skills
- Detail-oriented and has strong organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
- System experience in SAP and Onestream, considered an asset
- This role requires successful clearance of a background check (including criminal check, credit check, employment verification along with academic)
