The Role

Fisher & Paykel is an iconic New Zealand brand and a global company with a strong local heritage. Our origins inspire our culture of curiosity and passion to develop solutions designed around people — these are some of the core elements that make us unique.

We are driven by our values of being trusted, sustainably minded, innovative, generous, and curious. As a team, we take a collaborative approach and have a working environment where ideas are heard, evaluated, and tested against our leading goal — to be the world’s most human-centred appliance brand.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join our Australian Finance team.

This is a key role supporting the accuracy, integrity and insight behind our financial reporting. You will take ownership of core financial accounting activities, including month-end and year-end reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany transactions, cashflow support, compliance activities and financial analysis.

Working closely with the Finance Manager, CFO and business stakeholders, you will act as a trusted finance partner to the Operations, Warehousing, Logistics and Inventory teams. You will provide meaningful analysis, identify cost and process improvement opportunities, and help strengthen controls across the business.

As the local market ERP super user, you will also play an important role in improving systems, processes and reporting capability across the Australian business.

Key responsibilities

  • Own the accuracy and integrity of general ledger reconciliations across the balance sheet and profit and loss.

  • Complete month-end and year-end accounting activities, including journals, reconciliations, reporting and analysis.

  • Prepare meaningful financial analysis and commentary on operating performance, overhead spend, variances and project financials.

  • Partner with Operations, Warehousing, Logistics and Inventory teams to provide cost insights and support better commercial decision-making.

  • Support cashflow management and liaise with Treasury and head office teams as required.

  • Manage intercompany payments, recharges, reconciliations and stakeholder communications.

  • Maintain and strengthen financial controls, processes and procedures in line with group policies.

  • Review accounting systems, processes and procedures, recommending improvements where required.

  • Support inventory-related financial processes, costing, reconciliations and issue resolution.

  • Assist with taxation and compliance requirements, including BAS, FBT and income tax return preparation.

  • Liaise with internal and external auditors and coordinate audit requirements with business stakeholders.

  • Investigate and resolve reconciliation variances, driving improvements in quality, timeliness and efficiency.

  • Document key financial processes and maintain knowledge management materials.

  • Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives and ad hoc finance projects.

About you

You are a technically strong and commercially minded finance professional who enjoys partnering with the business, improving processes and turning financial information into practical insights.

You will bring:

  • Minimum 3+ years’ relevant corporate accounting experience, ideally within an inventory, distribution, retail, logistics or medium-to-large commercial environment.

  • CPA, CA or equivalent qualification.

  • Strong financial accounting capability, including balance sheet reconciliations, month-end reporting and application of accounting standards.

  • Experience with company tax requirements, including BAS, FBT and income tax.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret results, explain variances and prepare clear financial reports.

  • Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with large ERP systems; JD Edwards or similar experience highly regarded.

  • Experience with BI or reporting tools would be advantageous.

  • Inventory costing and distribution experience highly regarded.

  • A continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to identify opportunities to improve processes, controls and business performance.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to engage stakeholders across finance and non-finance teams.

  • Excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.

  • A proactive, collaborative and solutions-focused approach, with a strong sense of ownership.

What we offer

Our environment is designed to allow people to thrive. Our culture is one in which our people can continue to develop, working alongside a team of talented and skilled professionals.

At Fisher & Paykel, you will have opportunities for growth and exposure to a broad range of work within a global organisation. You will be part of a collaborative, team-based culture that offers development opportunities, leading technology, work/life balance, competitive remuneration and a challenging yet supportive environment.

If you are looking for a senior finance role where you can make an impact, influence decisions and contribute to continuous improvement across a respected global business, we would love to hear from you.
