Job DescriptionThe Senior Finance Manager – R&D Oncology Clinical Finance serves as a key finance business partner to the Oncology Clinical Development Team and Portfolio Program Management. This role serves as a senior finance partner to R&D leadership, driving financial planning strategy, clinical spend transparency, and cross-functional alignment to enable sound portfolio decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a strategic finance business partner to the Oncology Clinical Development Team and Portfolio Program Management, building trusted relationships that drive sound financial planning and decision-making.
- Lead decision support in R&D business partner meetings through data-driven analysis, influencing and constructively challenging decisions to drive optimal outcomes and disciplined use of funding.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration with the R&D organization to deliver financial commitments and identify and execute on strategic and growth value drivers.
- Develop insights and recommend actions to manage any deviations from plan; ensure coherent financial analysis and alignment across functions through the identification of opportunities to invest, reduce costs, and mitigate risks.
- Execute and manage all aspects of monthly, quarterly, Plan, Long Range Plan (LRP), and Latest Business Estimate (LBE) cycles as required.
- Conduct scenario planning and costing of clinical studies to support portfolio submissions, key strategic governance meetings, and business development opportunities.
- Monitor study progress and revise study estimates with timely and relevant causals rationale for senior management. Maintain integrity of financials and strong internal control environment for clinical study accounting (ROSS accounting).
- Adhere to the forecasting best practices and utilization of the R&D clinical cost calculator and cost categories established by the R&D forecasting COE and elevate unique or unusual situations.
- Develop a deep understanding of clinical trial cost interdependencies to provide clear, actionable financial guidance to clinical and finance partners.
- Provide relevant variance analysis for each planning cycle; develop meaningful management reporting schedules and ensure accuracy and predictability of results.
- Lead financial discussions with R&D Therapeutic and Finance leadership, providing insights into the components of clinical spend and implications of changes to enable informed decision-making.
- Develop and mentor team members to expand their skill sets, positioning the team to support the growing needs of the business.
Required:
- BA/BS degree required; degree in Accounting, Finance and/or Health/Life Sciences preferred.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive, relevant finance experience.
- Strong team player with a track record of effective cross-functional collaboration in dynamic, fast-paced settings.
- Demonstrated willingness to question assumptions and constructively challenge the status quo to improve processes and outcomes.
- Proven leadership presence with the ability to tailor communication and financial storytelling to executive audiences
- Demonstrated ability to influence and drive alignment across senior stakeholders and leadership
- Strong financial, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Aptitude for identifying process improvement opportunities and driving continuous improvement.
Preferred:
- MBA or Master's degree in a related field.
- Pharmaceutical or biotech industry experience strongly encouraged.
- Experience with SAP, BPC, ClinPro, Power BI, and/or Clin2Pay.
