Senior Fact-Checking Producer - Reuters

This 12 month fixed term contract based in Barcelona.

Reuters is looking for a senior journalist with strong reporting and writing skills to join its dynamic fact-checking team. This position involves identifying and fact-checking viral content relating to global misinformation topics and establishing the facts behind them, with a particular focus on the UK and Ireland. The role also requires editing to ensure quality and standards are maintained. The post will also support the Reuters fact-checking team in writing misinformation trend reports and fact-check articles.

The producer will be part of a hybrid work model and based in our Barcelona newsroom.

About the Role

As a Senior Fact-Checking Producer at Reuters, you will:

  • Work on an exciting project that aims to tackle misinformation on social media. You’ll have a direct impact on how information is consumed across a variety of social media platforms and will be a key stakeholder in setting the record straight.

  • Identify stories that require fact-checking to address the spread of misinformation on a global scale (with a particular focus on the UK and Ireland).

  • Proactively write and edit fact checks while fostering a positive, collaborative and inclusive work environment

  • Enforce Reuters’ editorial and ethical standards, adhering to style, guidelines and policies laid out by the Reuters Trust Principles and the Reuters Handbook of Journalists

  • Show attention to detail by ensuring stories meet Reuters’ standards for accuracy, speed, balance and clarity

  • Identify emerging trends and misinformation on various platforms, such as Facebook, X, TikTok and LinkedIn, among others.

  • Explore latest digital verification techniques and tools

  • Communicate fact-check findings in a manner that is clear, concise, and free from bias

  • Work closely with the global Reuters newsroom during breaking news when required

About You

You're a fit for the role of Senior Fact-Checking Producer at Reuters if you:

  • Be deeply familiar with social media as a news-gathering tool and track trends as to how misinformation travels online.

  • Demonstrate an analytical and unbiased approach to new stories and be comfortable researching a range of topics independently.

  • Show a proven interest in covering current affairs and misinformation.

  • Have demonstrable reporting and news-writing experience. Prior experience as a fact checker is by no means prerequisite.

  • Demonstrate experience editing under tight deadlines and sharing constructive feedback.

  • Show a proven interest in covering European affairs and global misinformation, particularly Britain and Ireland.

  • Show sharp news judgement.

  • Be able to identify emerging trends and misinformation.

  • Write crisp and clean copy in English. Fluency in any other European language is a plus.

  • Be a collaborative team player, comfortable working occasional weekend shifts when required.

If you have any prior experience in social media newsgathering, OSINT or fact-checking, we'd love to hear more about this in your application.

Please Note: This role has a daytime shift pattern and may include occasional weekend shifts. The deadline for applications is Sunday 18th May 2025. Early applications are encouraged.
