The Role

We're looking for engineering trailblazers to join our dynamic team and redefine what's possible.
We are looking for a talented Senior Engineer or Technologist to join our Power and Energy, Western Cape, Cape Town office. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing professional services on projects within the Power & Energy Functional group, including leading, design management, and design delivery for projects and managing professional teams of medium/large projects in any of the focus areas: Energy, Building Services, Power Reticulation, Distribution Substations, Overhead Power Lines, Underground Power Cables, Streetlighting, Urban Energy, Water Plants, Asset Management and Master Planning.
The Key responsibilities for this role are to:

Responsible for the General Management of Medium/Large Projects: This involves overseeing all aspects of a project, from initiation to completion, including planning, execution, monitoring, and closing.

Responsible for Project Management and Coordination of Multi-disciplinary Project Teams: Managing teams composed of members from different disciplines, ensuring their coordination and collaboration towards project goals.

Budget Management: Handling project budgets, resource allocation, and potentially outsourcing project work when necessary. This may also involve negotiating project budgets with other sections or stakeholders.

Authoring Technical Reports: Preparing technical reports that meet quality standards in terms of technical content and presentation. These reports are often used for documentation and communication purposes.

Quality Control: Reviewing and checking the work produced by team members to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements and standards.

Presentation and Representation: Presenting technical work to stakeholders, clients, or higher management. Representing the project or organization in meetings or discussions related to the project.

Bid Responses: Preparing responses to bids or proposals for new projects, ensuring that they are well-structured and competitive.

Client Interaction: Regularly communicating with clients, addressing their needs, and building strong client relationships. This may involve discussing business technologies and markets.

These responsibilities demonstrate a combination of project management, technical expertise, client relations, and leadership skills typically required in roles that involve managing complex projects in technical or engineering fields.
Recommended Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Bachelor of Engineering degree/higher degree from an accredited university/college

Relevant Professional Registration
-
Minimum 8 years of professional experience
-
Specialist knowledge of streetlighting design software tools e.g. Relux, DIALux etc
-
Specialist knowledge of power distribution for reticulation and substations for urban development
-
Experience in water treatment plant electrical design would be beneficial
-
Experience in using power distribution design software tools e.g DilSilent, AutoCAD, Revit, etc
-
Knowledge of QA and OHS requirements in SMEC

Knowledge of the commercial aspects of project management

Ability to effectively write reports

Courteous and business-orientated manners when communicating with stakeholders to foster and promote good working relations
-
Co-operative and flexible work style to work in a team environment.

Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure

Ability to make technical decisions that are outcome-drive
