ABOUT THE ROLE:
As Senior Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the health, output, and efficiency of a Tribe comprising up to four cross-functional squads. This entails directly leading at least one of those squads, while guiding and coordinating the Engineering Managers of the others. You will also pair with the Tribe’s Product Lead to ensure the Tribe’s future readiness by identifying and securing the necessary engineering talent and infrastructure ahead of time.
ONCE YOU ARE HERE YOU WILL:
- Oversee the deliveries of the entire tribe, ensuring that its responsibilities are continually being met
- Personally manage the deliveries of 1-2 of the tribe’s cross-functional squads
- Directly manage the performance, growth, and careers of up to 10 engineers and 1-2 Engineering Managers
- Work closely with the Product Lead to identify and address upcoming work and challenges
- Collaborate with Principle Technical Lead to set standards and systems for quality, stability, and security across the tribe
- Proactively hire, mentor, and coach engineers so that squads have the headcount and skills required
- Lead initiatives that expand the functioning of the entire RnD Department
- Act as a company leader, displaying practices and principles that expand company values
WHAT WE NEED YOU TO BRING TO THE TABLE:
- Exceptional people management skills, with past success bringing together dozens of individuals from different roles and teams to achieve company goals
- Several years of hands-on work as an engineer
- Years of experience leading several cross-functional software teams
- A positive track record of managing managers
- Experience with web development, ideally in a software-as-a-service company.
- A thorough understanding of the SaaS industry
- Superb communication skills
