ABOUT THE ROLE AND OUR TEAM:

The Knot Worldwide is seeking a talented and driven Senior Engineering Manager to join and lead our NY The Knot CMP Search Team.

The Knot is the nation’s leading wedding marketplace, providing our couples with a completely personalized experience that guides them through the entire wedding planning journey. A large part of that journey is providing couples with relevant wedding content to help guide them through the many wedding planning stages and decisions. These range from booking a venue, pricing guidance, and last-minute tips for the day of. TKWW’s content ecosystem also provides a first impression to couples of our brand as they start to plan their wedding, and helps to introduce them to everything that we have to offer.

As the leader of our Search team, you’ll drive the strategy, execution, and delivery of our search infrastructure and user-facing search experiences. You’ll work at the intersection of content, performance, and personalization—ensuring that users can find what they need quickly, while our vendor and marketplace partners benefit from optimized visibility and fresh, accurate data.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers working on critical search systems and services—managing career growth, performance, and project execution.
  • Own the roadmap for search capabilities across our web and mobile platforms, working in close partnership with Product, Data, Design, and Marketing teams.
  • Collaborate across zones, including Marketplace and Vendor Experience teams, to ensure search pages are performant, discoverable, and aligned with user and stakeholder needs.
  • Drive improvements in relevance, ranking, speed, and scalability of our search platform, including systems migrations and replatforming when necessary.
  • Ensure quality and maintainability by guiding software development best practices, conducting code reviews, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Shape platform and company-wide architecture by contributing to technical direction and collaborating with other senior engineers and leaders.
  • Coordinate globally with remote and international engineering teams to deliver reliable and cohesive solutions.
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES HAVE: 
  • 5+ years of experience managing engineering teams, preferably in product-focused, consumer web or mobile environments.
  • Strong background in leading teams working on search, content discovery, or content management systems.
  • Experience across modern web stacks such as React, Next.js, Node.js, GraphQL, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional projects involving performance optimization, SEO, and high-scale content systems.
  • Proven ability to lead and coach senior engineers across multiple technical domains.
  • Familiarity with relevance tuning, ranking algorithms, or search platform technologies (e.g., Elasticsearch, Solr, OpenSearch) is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills—you’re able to align engineering with product and business priorities, and clearly articulate trade-offs to stakeholders.
  • Committed to agile development principles and fostering a culture of learning, feedback, and accountability.

WORK MODEL:

This role is Together@TKWW-eligible and based near one of our office hubs. You’ll be expected to work in the office two days a week as part of our hybrid work model.
