In Ireland, Abbott employs around 6,000 people across ten sites. We currently have seven manufacturing facilities located in Clonmel, Cootehill, Donegal, Longford, Sligo & Kilkenny and a third-party manufacturing management operation in Sligo. We are seeking a proactive and experienced Senior Engineering Manager to lead Global engineering activities across our network of manufacturing sites. This is a fantastic opportunity to drive innovation, sustainability and excellence in a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee operations engineering activities, ensuring products are manufactured consistently according to Abbott quality standards.

  • Support operations engineering across multiple manufacturing sites, driving standardisation, performance and continuous improvement globally.

  • Drive engineering excellence programs across multiple engineering disciplines.

  • Anticipate and resolve high-level issues impacting operational success.

  • Drive risk assessments across products, processes and manufacturing lines across our global network.

  • Support manufacturing & product quality investigations accessing impact across network of products and processes.

  • Lead end-to-end project management, ensuring timely and budget-compliant project execution.

  • Make strategic decisions regarding project priorities and resource allocation.

  • Identify and mitigate risks through early assessment and effective strategies.

  • Set and monitor performance indicators, leading project audits (scope, schedule, quality, cost).

  • Drive operational efficiencies and optimizations within manufacturing processes.

  • Foster open and honest relationships with colleagues, customers, contractors, and vendors.

  • Manage department financial planning, including multi-year budget generation.

  • Hire, retain, and develop a diverse engineering team, providing ongoing feedback and mentoring.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, Quality, Clinical, and Regulatory departments to meet objectives.

  • Ensure compliance with FDA, GMP, and other regulatory requirements by developing and monitoring systems and procedures.

  • Uphold initiatives related to Quality Management Systems (QMS) and Environmental, Health & Safety requirements.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a closely related field; equivalent technical experience may be considered.

  • A minimum of 8 years of significant engineering and/or operational experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a highly regulated industry.

  • Post-graduate education or degree is desirable and may contribute to the required experience.

  • PM qualification preferred.

  • SS Greenbelt certification is a plus.

  • Proven track record of leading large-scale automated manufacturing lines with a focus on performance and continuous improvement.

  • Strong knowledge of FDA, GMP, Environmental, Health & Safety regulations, and Quality Management Systems (QMS).

  • Expertise in project management, including budgeting, scheduling, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Demonstrated leadership in building and managing high-performing engineering teams.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to negotiate and reconcile differences.
