THE ROLE

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will lead the engineering efforts in building and scaling Indie Campers’ backend platform, ensuring security, reliability, and high performance. Reporting directly to the CTO, you will be responsible for technical execution, team leadership, and strategic improvements. You will spend approximately 70% of your time on leadership and strategy and 30% on hands-on technical contributions.

WHAT WILL YOU WORK ON?

• Leading the design, development, and deployment of new product features on our scalable backend platform.
• Driving improvements in performance, security, and reliability.
• Cultivating a culture of quality, testing, and innovation while hiring and growing the engineering team.
• Championing AI-powered development practices to enhance speed, quality, and performance.
• Addressing technical debt, particularly in performance, CI/CD pipelines, and security.
• Establishing full observability across backend systems and externalizing key components through well-documented APIs.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Required Experience & Skills:

• 8-12 years of experience in backend development, including 6+ years managing teams.
• Proven experience scaling software platforms in global businesses with €10M+ in annual revenue.
• Hands-on expertise in Java and Go (Ruby experience is a strong plus).
• Strong leadership, communication, and execution skills.
• Experience growing and optimizing engineering teams.
• Familiarity with AI-driven software development.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience as a CTO or senior engineering leader at a startup.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a methodical, empathetic leadership style.
• Experience working in e-commerce.
