The Role
Lead several product engineering teams, owning delivery, team health, architecture trade-offs, hiring, performance, and organizational design. Coach tech leads into engineering managers, establish clear ownership, balance feature delivery with platform health, and partner with Product and engineering peers on shared services and suite architecture. The role requires technical depth, experience managing multiple teams in a SaaS product organization, and hybrid work from Athens or Heraklion offices.
Summary Generated by Built In

At Epignosis our mission is simple yet bold: To make learning technologies accessible to every business, regardless of geography, sector, or company size. And we've been doing just that for more than two decades, empowering millions of people to grow, learn, and thrive through technology that's both powerful and affordable.

We're rapidly becoming one of Greece's largest SaaS companies, serving 12,000+ companies and 22+ million learners worldwide with solutions like TalentLMS (an award-winning cloud LMS built for simplicity), eFront (an enterprise LMS), TalentCards (a mobile app for deskless training), and TalentHR (a lightweight HRIS for people operations).

Our success is built on a team that believes that work should matter — not only to you, but to the world around you. We're looking for people who light up when solving hard problems, who care deeply about their craft, and who want to build something that genuinely helps people grow.

We are searching for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead one of our product engineering organisations. This is a role for someone who has done the job before and wants a bigger version of it: several teams, real ownership of a product line, and a leadership group that needs growing. You will be accountable for how engineering delivers on that product - the teams, the people in them, and the quality of what reaches our customers.

We are also at an interesting moment. We are moving from four products that grew up separately toward a connected suite, which means the way our teams are organised is genuinely changing. You will help shape that, not just operate inside it.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will:

  • Stay close to the work. You won't be on the critical path for production code, but you will read code, join incidents, prototype when it helps you understand a problem, and use the tools your teams use.
  • Own engineering delivery for a product line, working in close partnership with its Product counterpart.
  • Lead several teams through their tech leads and managers, rather than directly managing every engineer yourself.
  • Grow tech leads into engineering managers - coaching, feedback, and the difficult conversations that come with it.
  • Set and hold delivery expectations, and be honest with the business about what is and isn't achievable.
  • Own team health: hiring, onboarding, performance, and the day-to-day conditions that let engineers do good work.
  • Make clear ownership decisions - which team owns which system, and what happens when work crosses boundaries.
  • Balance feature delivery against platform health, and make the trade-offs explicit rather than implicit.
  • Work with peers across the engineering organisation on shared services, standards, and the suite architecture that connects our products.

Requirements

To be successful in this role as a Senior Engineering Manager, you should have:

  • 8+ years managing software engineers, including experience managing or coaching other leads or managers.
  • The technical depth to engage with architecture decisions on their merits - you can weigh a trade-off, challenge an estimate, and tell when a delivery problem is really a design problem.
  • Experience leading more than one team at a time, in a product organisation rather than an agency or project setting.
  • A track record of growing individuals - people who are better engineers or leaders because they worked for you.
  • Comfort with organisational ambiguity, and the judgement to know when to bring structure and when to leave space.
  • Clear written and spoken English, and the ability to explain engineering realities to non-engineers without either oversimplifying or hiding behind detail.
  • Availability to work in a hybrid setup with 2-3 days per week in our Athens / Heraklion office.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with team topology models and a considered view on how teams should be shaped around systems.
  • Experience in SaaS at scale, with multi-tenant products and the operational realities that come with them.
  • Experience through an organisational change - a restructure, a merge of teams, or a shift from product silos to shared platforms.
  • Familiarity with SQL, PHP, Python or JavaScript-based stacks and AWS.

Benefits

We've built a workplace where people can do the best work of their careers. Here's how we support that:

  • Competitive salary and bonuses. Strong base pay plus performance rewards at personal, team, and company levels.
  • Stock options for everyone. Build software that empowers millions of learners worldwide, and own a piece of what you're creating. All team members can become shareholders, and these options have already changed lives.
  • Your health is covered in more ways than one. Private health coverage for every team member, access to a nutritionist, and our in-house blood bank — all part of our health and wellness support.
  • Comprehensive family support. We’re proud of our progressive family policy, one of the most generous in Greece.
  • Daily meals and food allowance. Breakfast and catered lunch at our offices, plus a monthly meal allowance you control.
  • Commute covered. OASA transport card or parking space near the office, whichever works for your commute.
  • Hybrid work. Work from home and from our modern office in the heart of Athens.
  • Learning budget for your growth. Coaching sessions, conferences, university degrees, creative pursuits — we fund it. Continuous learning is our mission and that includes you.
  • Part of the Starttech Ventures ecosystem. Access to learning and collaboration across a portfolio of SaaS companies, with resources that support long-term growth.
