Are you an experienced engineering leader with a passion for innovation and new product introductions (NPI) Medtronic’s Spine Operating Unit is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead our talented team at the Warsaw, IN site. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in shaping and optimizing New product introduction influencing design for manufacturing processes, driving operational excellence, and ensuring the successful launch of life-changing medical devices.
As a Senior Engineering Manager, you’ll provide strategic direction and oversight for engineering projects, guiding cross-functional teams through all phases of planning, development, and implementation. You’ll champion best practices in manufacturing, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and foster a collaborative, high-performance environment. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a significant impact on cutting-edge spine technologies and improve patient outcomes worldwide. This role will require about 10-15% travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary engineering team, providing coaching, development, and performance feedback.

  • Oversee the design and optimization of manufacturing processes, production layouts, and equipment installations to ensure efficiency, quality, and compliance.

  • Drive new product introductions (NPI), collaborating closely with cross-functional partners in development, quality, and operations.

  • Develop and implement strategies for process improvements, risk mitigation, and cost savings across the site.

  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and Medtronic’s standards for process controls and quality assurance.

  • Manage capital projects, including technology transfers, equipment validation, and integration of new manufacturing technologies.

  • Facilitate effective communication and feedback between manufacturing teams, development engineers, quality engineers, and senior management.

  • Partner with operations leadership to support business growth, continuous improvement initiatives, and future funding strategies.

  • Represent the site in interactions with contract manufacturers and suppliers, coordinating local visits and collaboration.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience OR an advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience.

  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing high-performing engineering teams

  • Proven ability to inspire, motivate, and influence others to achieve business objectives

  • Strong strategic thinking and decision-making skills, with a track record of driving results

  • Experience managing through organizational change and fostering a culture of continuous improvement

  • Skilled at conflict resolution and providing constructive feedback

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and all levels of the organization

  • Metallurgical background with expertise in material properties and applications

  • Experience with titanium, cobalt chrome, and the implementation of new technologies

  • Proficiency with CNC controls and process optimization from a design perspective

  • Strong understanding of process controls, GD&T, and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles

  • Experience with capital equipment projects and technology integration

  • Proven ability to drive improvements through feedback collection and analysis

  • Proactive, resilient attitude with adaptability to shifting priorities and high-pressure situations

  • Experience in a growing or transitioning site environment

  • Familiarity with contract manufacturer/supplier management

  • Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$171,200.00 - $256,800.00


This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).

 

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.  Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
