About the role

As the Senior Engineering Manager, Video Transcoding, you will lead the team that is building our video transcoding and packaging platform. This platform is foundational to the future of our platform and will enable us to extend our products to support advanced video and audio codecs. This is a high visibility role in our engineering organization and will provide you ample opportunities to showcase the accomplishments of your team.

You will:

  • Shape and execute the technical roadmap for the transcoding platform and associated pipeline components.
  • Lead the development of scalable services that enable advanced video codecs and are optimized for the unique challenges of anime.
  • Collaborate with product managers, digital supply chain teams and other partners to ensure alignment of roadmaps and initiatives
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop high-caliber engineers with a passion for creating exceptional video transcoding solutions.
  • Foster a positive work environment that encourages creativity, accountability, and professional growth.

In the role of Senior Engineering Manager, Video Transcoding, you will report to the VP of Video Engineering.

We are considering applicants for the location(s) of Dallas, San Francisco or Culver City.  Remote work is also a possibility depending on your experience and location.

  • You have 5+ years of proven experience leading engineering teams with a focus on the development of video transcoding and packaging pipelines.
  • You have a strong technical background with expertise in video transcoding, packaging  and related protocols and standards.

  • You have experience delivering complex projects on time and within budget.

About the Team

The Video Platform teams build the software and systems that power the most critical Crunchyroll user experience - watching video - across all mobile, desktop, and connected devices. We are passionate about providing the best possible playback experience to our fans. We own video from ingestion through playback. We strive to provide a scalable playback platform with robust, fault-tolerant services and extensible and flexible players that provide our customers with a premium playback experience.

Hybrid Workspace

Employees engage in a combination of remote and on-site work.

Two in-person days per week. Tuesdays and Thursdays are the company-wide days for ALL team members to be in the office, and individuals may choose to come in more if the please.
