Description
Join our dynamic software engineering team as a (Senior) Software Engineering Manager (f/m/x) and become an integral part of our growth. In this role, you will lead and coordinate multiple teams of talented software engineers, tackling challenging technical and business problems with speed and efficiency.
Responsibilities
Planning & Execution:
- Strategise and execute plans to ensure project completion within deadlines.
- Evaluate the feasibility of implementing new technologies or frameworks, collaborating with Technical Leads to develop technical solutions.
- Collaborate with engineers and product managers to establish effective team processes, prioritise backlog, and set short-term and long-term goals.
- Identify and resolve inefficiencies in the development process while promoting observability and data-driven decision-making.
Coaching & People Management:
- Manage cross-functional teams, providing guidance and support.
- Conduct regular 1:1 meetings with direct reports to understand their objectives and challenges.
- Offer continuous feedback, address underperformance, and acknowledge individual strengths and contributions.
- Oversee performance reviews and OKRs, acting as a problem solver to enhance team productivity and quality.
- Foster development and career growth, considering skill levels, personalities, work styles, and professional goals.
- Ensure timely delivery of high-quality work by overseeing the engineering team's progress and addressing any issues.
Representation & Transparency:
- Represent the engineering team in company and division-wide meetings.
- Cultivate transparency and trust within the team.
- Collaborate closely with product and engineering leadership to implement the agreed roadmap.
- Identify competency gaps and opportunities for improvement.
- Communicate with stakeholders to align priorities correctly.
- Serve as the advocate and enforcer of team development processes.
- Manage risk by identifying and mitigating potential issues in the team's projects.
- Continuously improve the team's processes and practices.
Hiring:
- Work closely with the elopage recruiting team to identify and hire exceptional candidates.
- Understand the team's staffing needs and ensure successful onboarding.
- Participate in and contribute to the improvement of the hiring process.
- Conduct technical interviews or delegate the task to team members.
Strategy:
- Collaborate closely with product and engineering leadership to align strategies and expectations.
- Implement the agreed roadmap, reporting on progress and addressing deviations.
- Continuously communicate with stakeholders to ensure alignment of priorities.
- Champion continuous improvement of the team's processes and practices.
- Manage risks effectively, escalating as necessary.
Requirements
- Solid people management experience, with a minimum of 5 years managing technical teams of 10+ people.
- Experience working with remote teams is a plus.
- Proficiency in Ruby on Rails development (3+ years).
- Familiarity with high availability setup on AWS, including service management and escalation processes (SRE, DevOps, Incident & Problem Management).
- Proficient in agile software development approaches such as Kanban or SCRUM.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
- Experience in requirements analysis and maintaining technical documentation.
- Previous experience in interviewing, onboarding, and coaching.
- Startup environment experience.
- Fluency in English.
