What you will do

In this role, you will be part of product development team to manage & deliver new product functionalities, modify existing product’s functionalities or improve product functionalities as required.

The Embedded Firmware and Software Manager will provide general supervision and technical guidance to the Firmware and Software development group in the design, development and test of Fire detection systems.

You will work within a multi-disciplined engineering team consisting of electronics engineers, mechanical engineers, firmware engineers, software engineers, programmers and scientists focusing on applied research and new technology innovations to provide new and improved products and solutions for our customers.

How you will do it

  • Define department goals and objectives which are aligned to business and communicates these to the team
  • Directly supervises Embedded Firmware/Software Team Leaders, Architects and developers in the design, development and testing of software programs within the specific timeframes required
  • Manages department and overall expectations pertaining to ensuring optimum use of resources and administers and monitors use against budget
  • Ensures On-time delivery against Software development department goals and objectives, i.e. meeting commitments and coordinating overall software development schedule
  • Manages the planning and execution of firmware and/or software development, including all associated resources to meet committed delivery dates
  • Provides effective communication regarding issues, objectives, initiatives and performance to plan
  • Works with Program Managers to develop project schedules and resource allocation models for NPI and sustenance product development cycle
  • Tracking program deliverables through KPIs on cost, quality etc.
  • Liaise with cross functional teams like HW, V&V, Design office, product development, Technical support, program managers and others which are part of product development cycle
  • Participates in the evaluation of hardware and software compatibility recommending program specifications.
  • Recommends program refinements and changes to better achieve desired functionality and/or enhance program capabilities. Counsels designers in the use of various design tools.
  • Facilitates and ensures individual and team roles and responsibilities are understood; performance measurement objectives are identified, measured and monitored on an on-going bases in order to provide feedback and take necessary action to address shortfalls. Involved in employment issues, such as staffing, termination and employee relations issues.
  • Ensures a positive work environment and awareness by all staff of company goals and objectives.
  • Follows and ensures workplace operating and environmental, health and safety procedures and guidelines compliance

What we look for

  • BE (EE/ECE/EIE/ETC) Degree in a technical field is required.
  • 15+ experience years on embedded firmware and software along with 5+ years in a supervisory experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in managing and tracking project/programs for end-to-end delivery
  • Required experience with Linux/C++, FreeRTOS, Embedded, Firmware, bare-metal development.
  • Required experience with Embedded low level driver for custom hardware.
  • Any experience using Oscilloscope, Logic analyzer, and ARM 32 bit would be a plus
  • Good knowledge on program KPIs and driving, tracking the same with team
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable Embedded firmware and software design and development practice; programming techniques and systems and language platforms
  • Experience in firmware development firmware in low level languages (Assembly, C, C++)
  • Experience in Full stack .NET Development with strong experience in object oriented programming, design patterns
  • Excellent problem solving, interpersonal communication and project management skills a must
  • Strong leadership skills that inspire team confidence and respect while motivating team members in a creative and effective manner.
  • Good experience in team management, performance management for a team with average 8+ years of work experience, with a mix of Technical Leads, Architects and EMs
  • Effective and strong communication skills to interact with multiple functions across geographies 
  • Must have a desire for achieving excellence in customer satisfaction, process and product quality and reliability.
  • Strong understanding of different embedded software development life cycles (waterfall, iterative) and contemporary software quality assurance processes and automated tools.
  • Must have experience in managing and working with distributed team members.
  • Must be extremely detail-oriented with respect to documentation and communication
  • Must be Self-motivated, takes initiatives, displays ownership mindset and leads by example
