GameChanger by DICK’S Sporting Goods works to connect families via live video streaming of games, scorekeeping and team communication tools for more than half a million teams. We are a remote-first, dynamic tech company based in New York City intent on improving youth sports for all and developing our own teammates.

OVERVIEW:

About GameChanger:

We believe in the life changing impact youth sports have on and off the field. Sports encourage leadership, teamwork, responsibility, and confidence – important life lessons that have the power to propel our youth toward meaningful futures. We recognize that without coaches, parents, and volunteers, organized youth sports could not exist. By building the first and best place to experience the youth sports moments important to our community, we are helping families elevate the next generation through youth sports.

So if you love sports and their community building potential, or building cool products is your sport, GameChanger is the team for you. We are a remote first, dynamic tech company based in New York City, and we are solving some of the biggest challenges in youth sports today.

The Position:

GameChanger's Core Services Team enables GameChanger engineers to deliver great products on a secure, stable, and scalable platform by delivering libraries and frameworks to make feature development more autonomous and efficient. This empowered, fully remote team works collaboratively with other platform and software engineering teams and engineering leaders to gather feedback, review designs, and proactively improve the back-end libraries, patterns, and practices that product engineering builds upon. You'll provide the vision, priorities, and guide daily work for the team by gathering feedback from engineers and collaborating with other engineering managers and product managers. You will be a leader, a mentor, and occasional hands-on developer or solutions architect. You will report into our Director of Platform Engineering.

What You'll Do:

  • Guide and drive the strategy, roadmap definition, prioritization, execution, and team building for the team.

  • Work with other engineering teams and leaders to gather internal customer feedback and use it to influence the direction for the team.

  • Develop core architectural components and frameworks to make feature delivery faster, more reliable, and scalable. Examples include internal SDKs, eventing systems, routing patterns, deferred work (queue) libraries, and other core concepts.

  • Empower developers by refactoring backend systems for greater autonomy, enforcing patterns with linting rules, and improving observability, resiliency, and the developer experience of our back-end TypeScript systems.

  • Work with the DevOps/Infrastructure and Mobile App Platform teams to manage a scalable and resilient API that handles billions of API requests and events per day.

  • Promote responsible engineering practices across the whole engineering organization.

  • Help engineers contribute at the highest level and serve our customers while gaining technical breadth and depth, improve judgment, and develop into tomorrow's leaders.

  • Work with leadership peers to refine and improve our innovative engineering culture.

  • Participate in an occasional on-call rotation with the team.

Who You Are:

  • People management background.

  • 5+ years of working and leading an engineering team, including as a technical lead/architect.

  • Experience building and operating large-scale, highly-available, observable, and secure distributed systems

  • Customer empathy for internal and external customers.

  • Experience coding in a higher-level language such as TypeScript/Node is beneficial.

  • Knowledgeable about AWS services, patterns and best practices for resiliency, scalability, and security.

Perks:

  • Work remotely throughout the US* or from our well-furnished, modern office in Manhattan, NY.

  • Unlimited vacation policy.

  • Paid volunteer opportunities.

  • Technology stipend - $4,000 every 2 years after your start to make sure you have the latest and greatest technology

  • WFH stipend - $500 annually to make your WFH situation comfortable.

  • Learning stipend - $500 annually towards continued development

  • Monthly physical, mental, wellness & learning stipend offered through Holisticly

  • Monthly lifestyle stipend offered through Fringe

  • Full health benefits - medical, dental, vision, prescription, FSA, HRA, HSA, and coverage for family/dependents.

  • Retirement savings - Traditional and Roth 401K plans are offered through Vanguard, with an immediate company match.

  • Life insurance - basic life, supplemental life, and dependent life.

  • Disability leave - short-term disability and long-term disability.

  • Company paid parental leave - up to 20 weeks for birthing parents and up to 12 weeks for non-birthing parents.

  • Family building benefits offered through Progyny.

  • DICK’S Sporting Goods and their family of brands teammate discount.

The target salary range for this position is between $210,000 and $240,000. This is part of a total compensation package that includes incentive, equity, and benefits for eligible roles.
