You’ll be joining a passionate group of engineers, designers, product managers, and data scientists dedicated to solving real-world educational challenges. Our teams operate with autonomy, embrace experimentation, and are deeply committed to user-centric design. We value transparency, inclusivity, and collaboration at all levels.

About the Role:

We're looking for a Sr. Engineering Manager to lead a team responsible for delivering user-focused features that are critical to Quizlet’s success. You’ll lead a team of talented engineers. From day one, you’ll partner closely with cross-functional leads to shape product vision, drive engineering excellence, and build systems that serve millions of learners globally. You’ll not only help team members grow in their careers, but you will also wear your technical hat to influence architectural decisions and lead engineering initiatives. This role may span consumer web experiences, mobile platforms, or a blend of both — flexibility and broad technical context are key.

We’re happy to share that this is an onsite position in our London office. To help foster team collaboration, we require that employees be in the office a minimum of three days per week: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday and as needed by your manager or the company. We believe that this working environment facilitates increased work efficiency, team partnership, and supports growth as an employee and organization.

In this role, you will:

  • Directly manage a team of 10 to 15 software engineers building end-user features and platform capabilities
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Data Science partners to define team strategy and quarterly goals
  • Oversee execution and delivery across projects, ensuring timely and high-quality outcomes
  • Champion technical best practices and scalable architecture decisions
  • Foster a healthy and inclusive team environment that prioritizes feedback, psychological safety, and career development
  • Guide team operations, including planning, hiring, mentorship, and performance reviews
  • Navigate ambiguity, provide clarity, and proactively resolve blockers across multiple functions

What you bring to the table:

  • Extensive years of experience in software engineering and strong years of experience leading engineering teams in a fast-paced, product-centric environment
  • Demonstrated success delivering features that balance business goals, user needs, and technical sustainability
  • Strong technical background in either full-stack web or mobile app development
  • Effective communication skills — you are clear, concise, and audience-aware
  • Track record of mentoring engineers and creating space for team growth
  • Deep understanding of agile practices and collaborative team workflows
  • Proven track record of strong  stakeholder management and cross-team coordination

Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience building and scaling education-focused or consumer-facing apps or subscription platforms
  • Worked in environments with high data or performance requirements
  • Contributed to mobile-first product strategies or multi-platform development
  • Experience with hiring and retaining diverse teams
  • Hands-on involvement in incident management or operational engineering practices

Compensation, Benefits & Perks:

  • Quizlet is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. Salary transparency helps to mitigate unfair hiring practices when it comes to discrimination and pay gaps.  Total compensation for this role is market competitive, depending on location and experience, as well as company stock options
  • Collaborate with your manager and team to create a healthy work-life balance
  • We offer 25 days of annual leave (and we expect you to take them!)
  • Competitive health, dental, and vision insurance (100% employee and 75% dependent)
  • Pension with employer contribution provided through Aviva
  • Professional Development stipend (teach yourself something new)
  • Paid Family, Medical and Caregiver leave, and Wellness benefits
  • Employees are eligible to participate in the Quizlet stock option program
  • 40 hours of annual paid time off to participate in volunteer programs of choice
