SummaryThe Technology & Innovation (T&I) engineer will conduct and support projects that develop new products and processes. This support will include both the technical and operational aspects of product and process development using or following Stage Gate process.
The incumbent must be able to operate both individually and in teams and will support new products and process launches. The individual will be responsible for supporting Materion’s Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, Sales, and Marketing teams; in addition, some customer support may be required.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesTechnology:
- Initial understanding of the technology landscape within area of expertise
- Improve and develop new technologies for the business unit
- Participation in customer interactions, conferences
- Support IP development and patent filing process if required
- Support and initiate digitalization efforts in the area of expertise
Business:
- Develop an operational understanding of the company and products
- Support new business development activities
- Perform detailed cost analysis for new product and cost reduction opportunities for new processes
- Develop SOPs, Work Instructions, Process Flow Diagrams, FMEAs, and Control Plans for new products and processes in cooperation with Operations/Quality
- Support products and sales with customer visits
- OPS Support in field of expertise to bolster technical capability if required
Project:
- Work in projects locally and globally to improve technical capabilities of BU
- Lead of smaller scale technology projects
Education – University degree in engineering/ physics / related field of study
Experience –
- 7 + years of professional experience in industry or research
- Experience in the optics industry preferred
- Demonstrated ability to successfully lead and execute on technical projects, design projects and teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with very good spoken English mandatory due to reporting to an overseas manager
- Programming skills in python or a similar language for data analysis
- Experience with OptiLayer thin film design software is highly preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Required: organizational and engineering skills, communication skills, team player, fluent English, expertise in optics or space industry
- Preferred: prior experience serving as the technical expert and teaching others,
- Beneficial: Knowledge in processes supporting optical coating like substrate preparation, inspection, patterning and assembly
