The Senior Software Engineer is an experienced technical role responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving scalable, high-quality software solutions while adhering to approved architecture and established development standards. This role contributes to technical design, code quality, testing practices, and complex problem-solving across applications and project deliverables.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly proficient in JavaScript, experienced in software design, and capable of delivering complex components of projects. This role is expected to serve as a strong technical contributor, collaborate effectively with development leaders and team members, and help promote best practices in software development, coding standards, code reviews, testing, and problem-solving.

Essential Functions

  • Understand project goals, requirements, and technical implementation needs.
  • Design, develop, and implement effective software solutions aligned with approved architecture and development best practices.
  • Collaborate with development leaders, architects, and team members to evaluate options and make sound technical decisions.
  • Participate in technical discussions by sharing experience, identifying risks, and recommending practical solutions.
  • Solve complex technical problems and support development efforts across assigned project work.
  • Mentor software engineers by sharing technical knowledge, providing guidance, and supporting skill development.
  • Champion best practices in software development, coding standards, testing, code quality, and maintainable design.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, tools, and team development practices.
  • Promote consistent technical approaches and encourage collaboration across project work.
  • Contribute to high-quality, scalable, and maintainable software design.
  • Develop and execute unit tests to support software quality and reliability.
  • Lead code reviews and provide constructive feedback to improve code quality and consistency.
  • Deliver complex project components with a focus on reliability, maintainability, scalability, and performance.
  • Continuously learn and apply current technologies, tools, and development practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in software development.
  • High-level proficiency in JavaScript.
  • Strong attention to detail and a solid foundation in software architecture and design.
  • Hands-on experience with PL/SQL, Oracle Forms, Oracle SQL, UNIX/Solaris, and C-Shell.
  • Experience working in full-stack development environments.
  • Strong knowledge of software development methodologies and industry best practices.
  • Proven ability to work in complex technical environments.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SmartCOMM / Smart Communications platforms.
  • Experience in the financial services industry.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and SOLID principles.
  • Experience working on Agile teams delivering multiple concurrent projects.

Additional Skills

  • Ability to contribute to technical design and implementation decisions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex application issues.
  • Ability to work independently on complex assignments while collaborating effectively with the team.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical partners.
