Faith Technologies Inc. (FTI) is currently seeking a Senior Controls Engineer in the R&D Group to join our Product Engineering team in Menasha, WI.
As a Senior Controls Engineer in the R&D group, you will be responsible for developing control systems in a physics-based modeling and simulation environment for electrical, thermal, and mechanical systems used in distributed energy resources and power distribution. Collaborating with subject matter experts, product strategy teams, and systems engineers, you will create accurate and efficient control systems, optimization, and analytics algorithms to support technologies and products development within the Product Engineering organization. You will play a key role in driving innovation and performance improvements in distributed energy and power distribution systems.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical engineering, or equivalent. Advanced degree in electrical or mechanical engineering with demonstrated background in controls theory preferred.
Experience: 5+ years of experience in controls systems design and systems simulation
- Experience with Python, C++, or similar environments for development of optimization tools and controls logic
- Experience with model-based controls development processes
- Proficient in hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), model-in-loop (MIL), and software-in-the-loop (SIL) simulation platforms, including the integration of plant and controls models
- Experience with HIL platforms including dSpace, speedgoat, NI, or others for testing of controls systems
- Experience or familiarity with control system design, PLCs, or SCADA systems for microgrids
- Familiarity with implementation of automated continuous integration and deployment processes for software releases
- Strong understanding of renewable energy systems including solar, wind, power conversion, and battery energy storage systems.
- Knowledge of power distribution concepts including uninterrupted power supply and power converters
- Knowledge of multi-physics modeling software such as Simscape, Simcenter Amesim, GT Suite, or similar
- Experience with management systems for battery energy storage, control of thermal management systems, optimization algorithms for energy management systems
- Experience using version control for software, modeling and simulation including Git or other similar tools
- Strong understanding of related regulatory frameworks and industry standards related to the relevant energy technologies: Microgrid, Power generation, and Energy storage preferred
Travel: 5-15%
Work Schedule: This position works between the hours of 7 AM and 5 PM, Monday- Friday. Works a sufficient schedule to meet the expectations of the role.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop control system design, implementation, and validation for new technology and product development
- Develop proof-of-concept controls algorithms to support architecture trade studies and provide functional recommendations to software teams· Collaborate with component and domain subject matter experts to translate functional requirements into controls, optimization, and diagnostics algorithms
- Develop and/or integrate physics-based modeling and simulation environment for a variety of electrical, thermal, and mechanical systems for distributed energy resources and power distribution
- Use simulation platforms to optimize and validate controls software design and overall system performance
- Conduct control system architecture trade studies and optimization to ensure maximized performance
- Utilize DOE, optimization methods, and data driven modeling and analysis tools
- Document, and communicate interface definitions and performance requirements for controls hardware and communication networks
- Lead the development and implementation of Model-in-the-loop and Hardware-in-the-loop processes for controls development and verification within R&D projects
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned
