The OpportunityWe are seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to lead the design and implementation of mission-critical platform systems, APIs, and foundational architecture. This senior role involves owning significant platform capabilities, driving architectural decisions, and establishing technical standards that enable our entire engineering organization. You'll work on transformational platform initiatives while mentoring other engineers and ensuring our technology foundation scales with business growth.
We can consider candidates for this position who are able to accommodate a hybrid work schedule and are close to our Charlotte, NC office.
Key Responsibilities:Platform Architecture & Design:
Design and implement mission-critical platform features and foundational systems
Shape platform architecture through both written specifications and hands-on code implementation
Build and maintain frameworks that make software development easier for application teams
Drive AssetMark towards target platform architecture through strategic technical decisions
Author technical design documents for complex platform capabilities
Establish and enforce API design principles, versioning strategies, and governance models
Developer Experience & Productivity
Experience in developing processes to reduce friction by identifying and eliminating bottlenecks in the development workflow that slow down engineers
Experience in building and maintaining Self-Service platforms that enable teams to provision resources, deploy applications, and access tools without manual intervention (Terraform or similar tooling)
Experience in managing local development environments that ensure developers have consistent, reliable local development environments that mirror testing and production
Experience in optimizing CI/CD pipelines to provide rapid feedback on code changes (build times, test results, deployment status). Either AzureDevOps and/or Github Actions experience required.
Experience in developer onboarding by creating streamlined onboarding processes that enable new engineers to be productive
Expertise in implementing and tracking key DevEx & DevOps metrics (DORA, SPACE etc.)
Expertise in Developer Tools & Toolchain Integration (code quality, security scanning, static analysis etc.)
Technical Leadership & Standards:
Improve platform development and DevEx practices and processes across multiple teams
Teach other engineers effective platform development and code deployoment techniques
Help establish platform community practices around secure coding, data privacy, design standards, testing and deployment
Balance technical debt with platform evolution while maintaining enterprise reliability
Coordinate platform work across multiple development teams and resolve complex technical dependencies
Enterprise & Compliance:
Ensure platform architecture meets stringent security, compliance, and regulatory requirements
Design systems that support business growth and can scale to enterprise demands
Work with data governance policies and master data management principles
Support technology modernization initiatives and legacy system transformation
Collaborate with enterprise architecture and security teams on strategic platform decisions
Deep expertise in platform engineering, developer experience and productivity
Advanced understanding of cloud-native development, microservices, distributed systems and CI/CD processes
Strong background in data architecture, enterprise integration patterns, and event-driven systems
Experience with performance optimization, scalability engineering, and system reliability
Understanding of enterprise security, compliance, and regulatory requirements
Proven ability to drive architectural decisions and influence technical direction
Exposure to AI tooling to drive architecture and development practices
Strong mentorship skills and experience leading complex technical initiatives
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field
5-8 years of software engineering experience with significant platform engineering focus
Experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale platform systems
Track record of leading complex technical initiatives and mentoring other engineers
Experience in DevEx, DevOps, infrastructure-as-code, and modern deployment practices
Experience with regulated industries, preferably financial services
Strong background in API governance, data architecture, and enterprise integration
Compensation: The Base Salary range for this position is between $156,000-$173,000.
This information reflects a base salary range that AssetMark reasonably expects to pay for the position based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and actual work location. This position will also be eligible for additional variable incentive compensation and competitive benefits.
