Position Summary
Shermco is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with extensive experience designing and upgrading medium voltage electrical distribution systems for industrial, commercial, healthcare, pharmaceutical, and mission-critical facilities.
This position will serve as both a technical lead and client-facing engineering advisor responsible for developing electrical infrastructure solutions, leading projects, mentoring junior engineers, and helping customers improve the reliability, safety, and performance of their power systems.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in medium & low voltage system design, equipment specification, power system studies, and customer relationship management.
This is a hybrid position with 3/4 days a week in the office, but ultimately depends on client needs.

ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities
Engineering Design & Technical Leadership
Lead conceptual, preliminary, and detailed engineering design efforts for medium & low voltage electrical distribution systems.
Develop and review one-line diagrams, equipment layouts, construction drawings, technical specifications, and engineering calculations.
Design and specify:
Medium & Low voltage switchgear
Low voltage switchboards, panelboards, and distribution equipment.
Transformers
Protective relaying systems
Motor control center systems design
UPS systems
Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
Emergency and standby power systems
Grounding systems
Metering, monitoring and SCADA systems
Support relay/breaker and switchgear replacement and modernization projects.
Evaluate existing infrastructure and recommend technical solutions for reliability, capacity, and safety improvements.
Coordinate with electric utilities regarding service requirements and system modifications.
Review equipment submittals and provide technical recommendations.
Power System Analysis
Perform and review:
Short-circuit studies
Protective device coordination studies
Arc flash studies
Power quality assessments
Harmonic studies
Grounding studies
Utilize SKM, AutoCAD
Project Leadership
Serve as lead engineer for medium & low voltage infrastructure projects.
Develop project scopes, schedules, engineering deliverables, and budgets.
Coordinate internal engineering resources and assign work to junior engineers.
Review engineering deliverables for quality and technical accuracy.
Support construction activities, equipment commissioning, and troubleshooting.
Client Advisory & Business Development Support
Act as a trusted technical advisor for customer facilities and electrical infrastructure planning.
Lead customer meetings and present engineering recommendations.
Assist customers in evaluating future capital projects and modernization programs.
Provide technical support during planned outages and emergent power system issues.
Support proposal development, scope creation, and technical sales efforts.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalentalternate degree with relevant work experience.
6+ years of experience in medium & low voltage power system engineering.
Experience designing electrical distribution systems from utility service entrance through medium & low voltage distribution equipment.
Experience with:
Medium & low voltage switchgear
Medium & low voltage distribution systems and equipment
Transformers and transformer protection
Protective relayign and protection controls systems
UPS systems
ATS systems
Emergency power systems
Strong client-facing communication skills.
Ability to lead engineering projects and mentor junior engineers.
Experience preparing engineering reports, technical specifications, and construction documents.
Experience using SKM and AutoCAD
Preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical, industrial, airport, or mission-critical facilities.
Experience with utility coordination and service entrance design.
Experience with commissioning and field support.
