Senior Analyst – Database Administrator (SQL Server Administration)

Role Purpose

Accelya software drives the airline industry.  If you have ever travelled by air it is likely that our software made that journey possible.

Several of Accelya’s applications depend upon Microsoft SQL Server. As we embark on an insourcing exercise, we are seeking SQL Server Database engineers of different experience levels to continue to ensure our applications remain secure, highly available, fast and efficient.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Design and deploy architectures and configuration that maintain availability in the event of component or site failure

• Develop standards for deploying and configuring Microsoft SQL Server and the technologies it depends upon (storage, operating system, network, etc)

• Define procedures for the deployment, configuration and operation of Microsoft SQL Server on various platforms including AWS, VMWare Cloud on AWS and ‘on-prem’

• Develop automation to deploy, configure and operate all Microsoft SQL Server instances consistently and efficiently

• Design and implement monitoring, alerting and self-healing strategies that maintains the health and availability of Accelya’s growing Microsoft SQL Server platform

• Harden Accelya’s Microsoft SQL Server instances to prevent the theft or ransom of data, and to adhere to strict regulatory requirements

• Upgrade databases to new versions. Deploy latest patches released by Microsoft

• Train the wider database engineering teams on the deployment and management of Microsoft SQL Server so that Accelya can deliver services 24*7

• Collaborate with our software engineering teams to help them deliver secure, highly available, high performing applications on Microsoft SQL Server

Experience, Knowledge & Skills Required:

• A solid understanding of installing & configuring modern versions of SQL Server

• Experience of architecting, deploying & operating high availability & disaster recovery like clustering, Log Shipping & Always On

• Experience backing up and restoring data at various levels of granularity – instance, database, object, rows, etc

• Ability to secure database data and simplify evidence gathering for security-related audits

• Knowledge of how to design & implement monitoring, alerting & self-healing strategies

• Ability to apply logic and data to diagnose and describe incidents and problems

• Experience developing automation that increases consistency and reduces human effort using tools like Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, Salt, Chef etc.

• Exposure to AWS and/or VMWare Cloud on AWS would be advantageous, but training will be provided if not

• The flexibility to support out of hours work, possibly working as part of a shift rota

• Knowledge and/or experience of open-source database platforms such as Postgres, MySQL,    MariaDB MongoDB, and Cassandra will be advantageous, but not essential
