About the TeamMicrochip FPGA Business unit offers FPGA device families suited for secure, power-efficient compute in a wide range of applications spanning across Imaging, Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI/ML), Internet of Things (IoT), Industrial Automation, Automotive, Aerospace and Defense, Wireline Access Networks & Cellular Infrastructure.
The Software Solutions Team develops the next generation multimedia and connectivity solutions for Microchip’s FPGA products using the latest technological trends. The team develops both Real-World and Reference Solutions involving Applications, Frameworks, over underlying Drivers, for High-speed Cameras, Video compression standards (MJPEG, H.264, etc.), Display standards, Connectivity standards like Ethernet, PCIe, USB, QSPI, etc., Passive Optical Networks (GPON/XGSPON) and Wireless communications. The Software Solutions development includes defining the architecture and design of the Software stack and associated modules, writing code, debugging, verifying the solution, review and submission. The team also defines features and usecases for upcoming Solutions, as part of the roadmap.
About the PositionThe current position is an excellent opportunity for someone willing to work on next-generation Linux Solutions running on Industry’s first RISC-V based SoC-FPGA and other heterogenous, processing blocks. The individual will work on bringing up those processing units, developing diagnostics for their bring-up, and developing Solution Stacks, involving Networking/Connectivity Interfaces/Protocols, like the Passive Optical Networks (GPON/XGSPON). The Solution’s Software Stack would typically consist of Drivers, Userspace Frameworks and Reference Applications, deployed across a heterogenous system.

Technical SkillsMandatory Skills:-
- Hands-on experience in Device Bring-up, Bootloaders and Diagnostics on Linux-based Embedded Systems. Experience in coreboot, ONIE, GRUB is a plus.
- Solid Programming experience in C, with emphasis on Embedded Systems.
- Experience of Programming from scratch, using Software Programming Principles, Quality Coding Techniques and Data Structures.
- Experience in Software Design and Software Architecture, knowledge of how APIs, Libraries, Frameworks and Applications are designed.
- Hand-on experience in Linux Kernel and Device Drivers.
Great add-ons (Optional Skills):-
- Experience in Linux Userspace Frameworks and Applications. Knowledge of Linux OS techniques such as multi-threading, IPC, etc.
- Experience in Debugging Heterogenous Software in Linux environment, Tuning and Optimizing Software for Performance, Memory and Power.
- Understanding of Hardware and Software subsystems, interfaces/tools for Hardware/Software Debugging.
- Familiarity with Linux build systems (like Yocto), code management tools (like bitbucket and git), code review, regression and automation tools.
- Experience in one or more Networking/Connectivity Interfaces/Protocols like Passive Optical Networks (GPON/XGSPON), Ethernet, etc. is a plus.
- Experience in Dockers/Kubernetes is a plus.
- Experience in Golang and Protobuf is a plus.
- Knowledge of FPGA and RISCV processors is a plus.
- Knowledge of Microchip debugging tools and testing equipment is a plus
