ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a  Senior Engineer I in the New Product Engineering team who will be responsible for the overall design, development, and integration of the Low Voltage electrical systems for all future vehicles. You will have direct influence on vehicle electrical systems from concept through to manufacturing launch to field support.

You will be part of the team that develops the industry’s best-in-class zero emission bus. You will focus on component selection, harness design, circuit protection and overall power distribution architecture. Assignments are broad in scope and highly complex that require outstanding creativity, superior initiative, good judgement, and leadership skills combined with the willingness to do hands-on engineering.

TECHNICAL FOCUS

Power and Signal Distribution

You will apply your skills & experience to provide highly customized, vehicle-based power & signal distribution systems through definition and/or selection of harnesses, devices, fusing, and connectors of appropriate size. Additional consideration for routing and environmental conditions will also play a major factor as the GILLIG Transit Bus is both a heavy-duty industrial and automotive product.  Experience with low voltage (12/24VDC) and high voltage (600VDC, 240/480VAC) is required.  Experience in electrical harness manufacturing and/or industrial control systems a plus.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:

  • Carefully review component specifications and component selection
  • Lead low voltage harness & schematic designs that include:
  • Perform design analysis on electrical loads, power distribution, & circuit protection
  • Lead DFMEA discussions in order to identify potential risks and implement design changes to mitigate potential failure modes based on results
  • Lead design reviews with cross-functional teams to ensure they meet project requirements as well as regulatory & industry standards
  • Support production launch activities and continuous products and process improvements
  • Help support both on-site & off-site troubleshooting activities with our Production Support &/or the Customer Care teams when necessary
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) efforts and advise stakeholders on technical issues that could affect product design and delay deliverables
  • Advise stakeholders on technical issues that affect product design, production cycle-time and cost
  • Work cross-functionally with other engineers, designers, technicians, sales representatives, installers, and project managers to deliver projects on schedule & on budget, improving cost, quality, delivery, and performance
