Senior Engineer – Data Engineering (Cyber Analytics & Business Intelligence)

Sysco LABS’ enterprise technology is present in the end-to-end foodservice journey, enabling the sourcing of food products, merchandising, storage and warehouse operations, order placement and pricing algorithms, the delivery of food and supplies to Sysco’s global network and the in-restaurant dining experience of the end-customer.
The Opportunity:
This position is with the Cyber Analytics & Business Intelligence program at Sysco where you’ll play a key role integrating data end-to-end for a complete lifecycle view. The right candidate will be responsible for engineering Business Intelligence solutions for Cybersecurity programs, using underlying data from tools and technologies to build actionable dashboards that help focus cybersecurity teams identify existing and emerging threats and gaps, issues/opportunities empowering operational and business stakeholders to make timely and wise decisions, mitigate risks proactively, increase efficiencies and invest wisely.
Responsibilities:
Data Pipeline Development: Designing, building, and maintaining scalable and efficient ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest, transform, and load large volumes of cyber security data from various sources (e.g., SIEMs, EDRs, network logs, cloud logs, vulnerability scanners & many more) with the DevSecOps Mindset. Using Cloud Composer/Cloud Run on GCP Platform
Data Modeling: Developing and optimizing data models Google BigQuery , ensuring data integrity, performance, and accessibility for analytics and reporting
Cloud-Native ETL Solutions: Leveraging GCP services, including serverless functions (e.g., Cloud Composer, Cloud Run), for data processing, orchestration, and automation; along with Monitoring
Google Big Query Proficiency: Developing and managing data solutions in GCP, utilizing its capabilities for large-scale data storage and analytical queries
Power BI Reporting & Integration: Ensuring data models are optimized for consumption by Power BI, collaborating with analysts to build compelling dashboards and reports that visualize key security metrics and trends
Data Quality & Governance: Implementing robust data quality checks, monitoring, and alerting mechanisms to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of security data; contributing to data governance policies and best practices
Automation: Automating data ingestion, transformation, and reporting processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort
Documentation: Creating and maintaining comprehensive documentation for data pipelines, data models, and data processes
Troubleshooting: Identifying and resolving data-related issues, ensuring data availability and accuracy
Innovation: Staying up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in data engineering, cloud platforms (GCP), and cybersecurity to drive continuous improvement and innovation
Requirements:
3 - 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, with a strong focus on building and maintaining data pipelines and data warehousing solutions.
Hands-on Experience with BigQuery: Data modeling, query optimization, and experience with Data Migration/Replat forming
Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP):Experience with serverless functions (e.g., Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, Cloud Flow, Cloud composer) for data processing and orchestration
Familiarity with other relevant GCP services (e.g., Cloud Storage, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Dataflow/Dataproc concepts)
Experience building data solutions for Power BI: Working experience in Power BI's data connectivity, data models, and best practices for report development
Proficiency Python for data manipulation and automation
A strong understanding of ETL/ELT principles, data warehousing concepts, and dimensional modeling.
Adherence to engineering standards, best practices - be process oriented
Strong communication skills – reading & comprehending documents/specifications, producing clear and thorough documentation, ability to discuss and explain technical issues during meetings
Experience in the cybersecurity domain or working with security-related data (e.g., SIEM logs, network flows, vulnerability data)
Exposure/Experience in fundamental DevOps tools such as Terraform, Jenkins, GitHub, Nagios and Chef etc.
Exposure/Experience with Legacy RDBMs such as SQL Server
Exposure/Experience to AI concepts, exposure to AI practices and platforms relevant to data engineering. A good understanding of data governance frameworks and security best practices for data
