The Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the research, design, and implementation of capital and maintenance electrical projects; will provide technical support for maintenance, construction oversight, stewardship of the facility electrical systems, and ensure that procedures, documents and drawings are updated and maintained.

Location: New Orleans, LA - Gentilly manufacturing plant

Work Arrangements: 100% on-site

  • Willingness to work off shift hours and flow to the work as needed

  • Travel - less than 10% for Factory Acceptance Tests

In this Role You Will:  

  • Develop preliminary scope documents for the electrical portion of capital and maintenance projects
  • Develop electrical section of “Specification for Detailed Engineering” documents
  • Provide leadership for task force on electrical systems to gather input from production and maintenance. Input is then incorporated into engineering projects
  • Communicate with vendors to determine applicability of products
  • Develop detailed equipment specifications to ensure all necessary equipment, drawings and vendor provided services are identified and detailed
  • Evaluate vendor bids for conformance to specification and recommends appropriate vendor to purchasing
  • Direct electrical designers in the creation of engineering construction packages; this includes drawings, instructions and specifications
  • Review and approve electrical design packages
  • Provide technical support to the maintenance electrical supervisors, C&IS technicians, and operations managers
  • Review electrical test reports and develop projects to correct deficiencies
  • Provide technical help to investigate equipment and system failures and recommend corrective actions
  • Order short circuit and coordination studies per schedule or as needed for major changes or additions to power system; implement recommendations from the study
  • Schedule and supervise all power systems operation, maintenance, testing, inspections, and cleaning to maintain good reliability
  • Supervise and direct electrical safety owner to ensure electrician workforce is knowledgeable, qualified in NFPA 70E, and remains injury free
  • Investigate all electrical incidents; ensure all technicians are low voltage qualified; ensure a critical mass are medium voltage qualified
  • Maintains, coordinates with others and preforms service work on all AC and DC electrical distribution systems, motors and controls
  • Read, interpret and mark up for “as-built” blueprints and drawings
  • As circumstances warrant supervises qualified personnel and vendors engaged in electrical installations and the preventive maintenance of these systems

  • Responsible that all installations meet all applicable code requirements and plant standards; participate in the ongoing development of plant standards
  • Support sustainability efforts by tracking energy usage and developing energy reduction projects

What We are Looking For:  

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment OR a high school diploma, 10 years of manufacturing experience, and substantial hands-on expertise in power and controls systems
  • Experience or knowledge in electrical power system studies including short circuit, arc flash, and protective device coordination
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems

Additional skills and experience that we think would make someone successful in this role:  

  • Food manufacturing experience
