Te āhua o te tūranga | The nature of the role

As our Senior C&I Engineer, you’ll be a trusted technical voice initially tagged to the Glenbrook Battery project, helping deliver instrumentation, control and functional safety solutions from detailed design through to construction, commissioning and handover to Operations. While your initial focus will be Glenbrook, this is a permanent position designed to continue across Contact’s pipeline of major projects.

You’ll guide complex control system designs, participate in HAZOPs, CHAZOPs, LOPAs and SIL verifications, and review everything from P&IDs and loop diagrams to network architecture, control narratives and cause-and-effect charts. You’ll also provide senior support during FAT, SAT, commissioning and plant start-up. Working closely with Operations, Technical Authorities, contractors, integrators, OEMs and Contact’s C&I specialists, you’ll bring the right people together, provide clear technical judgement and help carry Glenbrook safely and successfully through execution.

You’re an experienced C&I engineer who enjoys being close to the action on major projects. You bring the technical confidence to make sound engineering judgements, while remaining open to different perspectives and better ways of doing things. You’re comfortable giving candid advice, working through complex problems and turning technical detail into practical solutions. You’ll also be someone who builds strong relationships, communicates clearly and takes pride in delivering work that will perform safely and reliably throughout its lifecycle.

The must-haves for this role are a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, Instrumentation or a related discipline, along with at least eight years of relevant I&C engineering experience. You’ll need strong expertise across PLCs, BPCS, SIS, industrial networks and field instrumentation, demonstrated experience applying IEC 61508 and IEC 61511, and experience with hazardous-area design under AS/NZS IEC 60079. Experience leading C&I workstreams on major projects, working with contractors and vendors, preparing technical specifications, or supporting commissioning and plant start-up would be a real advantage. You may not tick every preferred box, and that’s okay. Our preference is for candidates based near our Glenbrook site, however are open to applicants close to one of our North Island generation hubs (Tauranga, Taupo, Wellington or New Plymouth) on a case by case basis with an expectation of frequent travel to sites.
