Job Description SummaryThe Advanced Program section within GE Aerospace’s Edison Works division is responsible for the development, design, testing, vehicle integration, and support of engine inlet and exhaust system technologies for new engine concepts and development programs. The Advanced Program Aerodynamics Senior Engineer is responsible for technical leadership through all aspects of conceptual synthesis, technology development, detailed aerodynamic design, platform integration, and testing of advanced military propulsion technologies with a primary focus on augmentors, exhaust nozzles, and inlet systems. This role drives conceptual through detailed aerodynamic design utilizing flow path layout tools, computational fluid dynamics methods for reacting and non-reacting flows, experimental rig development, and full engine test support. All activities require close collaboration across multidisciplinary teams to mature technologies from early concept through fielded solutions for advanced military applications. Operating in a mission-based, fast-paced environment, the Senior Engineer provides technical leadership to both small focused and larger cross-functional teams for delivering innovative propulsion systems, and integrated power-thermal management systems that continually advance the future of military aviation.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Aerodynamic engineering ownership of military engine inlets, augmentors, and general exhaust systems, including design, analysis, rig development, and full engine testing
  • Support cross functional team for exhaust system design, testing, and support
  • Execution of complex technical projects, including program scoping, schedule, and financial management to meet business needs and customer deliverables
  • Execute individual and team projects using sound engineering principles while adhering to business standards, best practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
  • Complete technical and program operating reviews with senior leadership teams and customers
  • Strategically influence, coordinate, and lead teams through solving complex technical challenges
  • Develop action plans and proactively communicate with key stakeholders when executing development programs and responding to issues or problems
  • Participate in strategic planning activities and champion organizational initiatives
  • Proactively identify issues, proposed solutions, and engage with key technology and program leaders to drive problem resolution
  • Experience working within a lean operating model (e.g., GE Aerospace’s FLIGHT DECK) to continuously improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost
  • Ability to work closely with airframer partners and government customers to define problems, develop data-driven solutions, and co-create proposals that deliver measurable safety, quality, delivery, and cost impact
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Aerospace, Mechanical, or closely related engineering field
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant aerodynamic or propulsion design experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active US Government security clearance

Desired Characteristics:

  • Advanced degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with to fluid mechanics preferred
  • Proven experience in compressible flow aerodynamics, propulsion, and engine exhaust systems, including deep technical expertise in augmentors and exhaust nozzle design
  • Strong technical aptitude, system-level thinking, and desire to learn new skills
  • Experience with design and analysis software such as Siemens NX, Ansys Workbench, Ansys CFX, Ansys Fluent, Hypermesh, Python, etc.
  • Experience with propulsion exhaust system rig and engine testing
  • Effective in contributing to a structured, cross functional teamwork environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong familiarity with aerodynamic design principles, analysis tools, test methods, and end-to-end engineering processes

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. Therefore, employment will be contingent upon the ability to prove that you meet the status of a U.S. Person as one of the following: U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. Citizen, have been granted asylee or refugee status (i.e., a protected individual under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)).
