Job Description

Senior Energy Market and Modelling Specialist

Location: Copenhagen or Stockholm

About the job

Would you like to work with energy markets and energy system modelling in an international company? We experience a growing demand for our consultancy services in this area and therefore seek a new employee who can join our team for energy strategy and modelling. We invite you to bring your expertise, as you develop and implement sustainable energy solutions.

In both Denmark and Europe, the political initiatives mean that there is an increasing focus on understanding future energy systems with increasing amounts of renewable energy. We must find the optimal way to use the energy resources and do it in the most climate-friendly and cost-effective way.

To succeed in this role, you must have a relevant economics or engineering background, with experience and interest in analysing and modelling the global energy commodity markets, as well as European electricity and ancillary service markets and be interested in the transformation of the energy sector.

Inviting bright minds

Do you want to push the boundaries of your profession and develop your excellence in an open, collaborative, and empowering culture? We work to create a sustainable future, and our inspiring projects and innovative solutions aim to set the standard among our peers. You will join a global company that has been growing successfully since its founding in 1945. Together, we lead and leave a positive impact on societies, companies, and people around the world.

Your responsibilities

As a specialist within energy markets your focus will be using and developing Ramboll´s European Electricity Market Model, surveying and analysing global energy commodity markets, contributing to the development of the Ancillary Service Market Model and supporting the development of our hybrid optimisation models for decentralised and behind-the-meter systems.

As energy systems become increasingly complex, they demand expertise to analyse and recommend solutions for their upcoming challenges. We advise many private and public institutions. We advise on decentral and central energy systems and with our holistic approach we are also strong in analysing and presenting complex contexts. We do so by utilizing energy system models and apply them to European and global context.

As our new energy market specialist, you will be part of the Advisory team in Ramboll Energy – Solutions for Industry. You will work closely with your colleagues in the team but also with many people from the wider organisation. The tasks you should solve are diverse within the area. Your part of it will depend on your skills, experience, and development wishes. We expect you to take a leading role in developing and using the models and support less experienced colleagues in the team.

We envision that your tasks and responsibilities will be to:

  • Lead the further development of Ramboll’s hybrid models and electricity market models
  • Develop and maintain Ramboll´s European electricity market model in collaboration with the team.
  • Plan, execute and report electricity spot and ancillary service market studies for clients
  • Analyse global energy commodity markets and the influence on European energy markets and countries.
  • Lead or support feasibility studies in collaboration with other teams.
  • Support the wider business development team with client proposals.
  • Working collaboratively with other Ramboll business units and geographies to integrate electricity and energy market modelling solutions to projects.
  • Flexibility in supporting several studies in parallel.
  • Develop technical presentations and present to clients.
  • Project management of small and medium size projects.
  • Contribute to developing the strategy for Ramboll’s business in the above topics.

You and your competencies

We expect you to have an academic education in economics or engineering with solid experience (at least 5-10 years) in electricity and energy markets modelling and analyses, preferably also with experience from working in a consultancy business.

You like working in a dynamic environment and have an interest in further developing your knowledge and skills.

Your education and/or experience must fully or partially contain the following elements:

  • Experience using and developing electricity market models
  • Energy system analysis
  • Proficiency in Operations Research within energy system modelling
  • Extensive programming experience in Python
  • Energy planning
  • Technologies in energy systems
  • Data processing

In addition, we expect that

  • You understand the consultancy business and deliver value to our clients
  • You can work independently, systematically and structured with your tasks, but at the same time be a team player.
  • You have strong communication skills - written and oral - in English
