Job Summary: This is an exciting role in a growing company. The Embedded Control Systems Engineer will own the development and validation of motion control firmware for electromechanical systems on Epirus Defense products. They will integrate various motors, actuators, sensors, and other I/O to ensure that Epirus Defense products meet their design specifications. The ideal candidate has experience with writing production firmware/software to control large electromechanical systems such as weapons positioners, construction or manufacturing equipment, and robotics.
Responsibilities:
- Own the software encompassing motion control for Epirus Defense products, through all stages including scope definition, architecture layout, code development (C / C++), validation, and deployment
- Lead the integration of various motion control system elements including motors, actuators, encoders and other sensors, drive system controllers, supervisory control computers, and safety interlocks
- Own design verification testing of positioner hardware and collaborate with other engineers to ensure the motion control systems meet the system requirements
- Validate and troubleshoot motion control system performance through data logging and analysis (Python)
- Hold design reviews and presentations with peers and act as an expert reviewer
Basic Qualifications:
- BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of experience developing embedded software products
- 3+ years of experience developing embedded software for motion control systems
- Experience with one or more industrial communication protocols including CANopen, J1939, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, Profinet, etc
- Experience configuring and integrating motor controllers/motor drive units
- Advanced proficiency in C / C++ / Rust
- Intermediate proficiency in Python
- US Citizen and/or Permanent Resident (future clearance may be required)
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Experience with multiple heavy lift gimbal product lifecycles from design concept through build and test
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Collaborative; capable of working across all levels of the organization
- Organized; comfortable working in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment

As required by the Equal Pay Transparency Act, Epirus provides a reasonable range of minimum compensation for roles that may be hired. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location.
For the state of California only, the range of starting pay for this role is:
$138,300—$159,700 USD
