About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Senior Electronics Technician - PCB Repair to join our Service team located in our factory, RoboFab, in Salem, OR. The successful candidate will be responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining complex printed circuit boards and other electromechanical systems in support of our mobile manipulator platform, Digit. You will work closely with technicians and engineers, external partners and customers, and various teams to ensure timely and effective service delivery. This position has great potential for career advancement in a rapidly growing and exciting new industry of humanoid robotics.
About the Work
- Perform detailed component-level troubleshooting and diagnostics on complex PCBs to identify faults and failures.
- Execute meticulous repairs and replacements of surface mount (SMD) components to IPC standards, including but not limited to resistors, capacitors, integrated circuits (ICs), transistors, and connectors.
- Utilize advanced microsoldering techniques, including hot air rework, soldering irons with fine-tip precision, and specialized rework stations, to ensure high-quality and reliable connections.
- Interpret and utilize electronic schematics, diagrams, and technical documentation to guide troubleshooting and repair processes.
- Conduct thorough visual and electrical inspections of PCBs to identify defects such as cold solder joints, lifted pads, trace damage, and component issues.
- Employ diagnostic equipment such as multimeters, microscopes, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and thermal imaging cameras to pinpoint component-level failures.
- Maintain accurate records of all troubleshooting steps, repairs performed, and components used.
- Adhere to strict quality standards and ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) control procedures.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest microelectronic repair techniques and industry best practices.
- Maintain a clean, organized, safe and efficient workspace regularly employing 5S.
- Support Production and Deployment teams with mechanical robot diagnostics, repair, assembly, testing and support as required.
About You
- High School diploma or GED; a 2-year Electronics Technology degree or military equivalent preferred
- Minimum five years of hands-on experience in component-level repair and soldering of small electronic (SMD) components on printed circuit boards; 0402 and 0201 experience highly preferred.
- Minimum five years electro-mechanical systems troubleshooting and repair; mechatronics troubleshooting and repair preferred; failure analysis highly desired
- Experience with: electronics prototyping, soldering, debugging of complex systems.
- Strong proficiency with electrical / electronic hand tools, power tools, diagnostic tools, and engineering lab equipment (Power Supplies, DMM, Microscopes, O-Scopes, etc.)
- IPC certifications desired (IPC 610, 620, 7711, 7721)
- Excellent computer skills and proficient using Google sheets/docs and/or MS Excel/Word/Powerpoint; MRP/MES, JIRA, MS Power BI a plus
- LINUX CLI skills and experience highly desirable; Altium PCB design highly preferred
- Able to quickly learn new software applications
- Able to perform standard work instructions and SOPs with accuracy and repeatability
- Able to provide clear written and verbal detailed updates and reports daily/weekly
- Able to work well both independently and collaboratively in a factory environment
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs, have excellent manual dexterity, fine motor skills, and visual color acuity
- Ability to work M-F overtime to meet schedules, and occasionally weekends (not typical)
