The Sr. Electrical Engineer role is responsible for power and control circuit design, component selection and design. This role also handles agency certification, product enhancements, quality improvements, and product lifecycle maintenance. The focus of these responsibilities is on Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) packaged products and solutions across various industries. This opportunity enables you to participate in complex engineering for packaged low voltage electrical solutions for both Engineered-To-Order (ETO) and New Product Introduction (NPI) projects. The Sr. Electrical Engineer will create detailed design documentation for ETO sales orders, NPI product development, customer approvals, and specify supplier requirements.
The Sr. Electrical Engineer works closely with various cross-functional teams and across business units.
You will report to the Integrated Drives Business (IDB) Engineering Team Lead in Bangalore, India and is a hybrid role.
Your Responsibilities:
- Under the direction of managers or project leaders, analyse customer and product requirements. Design ETO orders and NPI products for VFD application solutions, including electrical and electro-mechanical circuits. This work uses experience of digital, analogue, and power circuits.
- Improve designs for a balance of cost and performance by incorporating standard and custom power and control components, cables, enclosures, and thermal management solutions and other automation controls into a packaged drive product.
- Assist Product Management in preparing ETO project proposals and NPI proposals including scope definition, resource estimates, project schedules, and costs.
- Cross-functional collaboration during development of conceptual designs through final fabrication and production implementation. Includes interfacing with global customers, suppliers, IDB engineering, LV Drives Development Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Assurance, Product Management, Business Management, and the Operations Planning and Production functions.
- Develop products and design documentation as specified by the development process.
- Solve common and complex electrical design challenges within established specifications and recommend appropriate alternatives.
- Maintain a working knowledge with regulatory standards (UL, IEC) and requirements for product design and compliance including EMC susceptibility and emissions from power conversion products.
- Develop and implement test plans for new designs and maintenance of existing designs.
- Participate in prototype validation testing and product qualification testing.
- Specify and procure prototype and proof of concept parts.
- Support the Operations and Quality Assurance teams to resolve product manufacturing and test issues.
- Support field service and customers with timely resolution of post-shipment issues.
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities for products and processes.
- Maintain designs of released products and support Continuing Engineering efforts throughout the product life cycle.
- Support company and IDB goals, objectives, and profitability, and foster an environment of teamwork to support our cultural principles.
- Ensures familiarity with company policies and procedures. These include Standards of Business Conduct, Intellectual Property, Control Environment, Information Protection, ISO 9000 and 14001, and government regulations. The government regulations cover areas such as health, safety, quality, and environmental.
The Essentials - You Will Have:
- BE/B-Tech. Degree in Electrical Engineering, With 7-10+ years of electrical design experience with power and control applications.
- Strong proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical. (For schematics and harness)
- Experience designing to U.L. 508A, UL 61800-5-1, CE, and other global standards.
- Strong proficiency in SAP and Windchill for documentation control and part lifecycle management.
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
The Preferred - You Might Also Have:
- Experience designing solutions incorporating VFDs, especially Allen-Bradley Low Voltage Drives.
- Proficiency in design using EPLAN & Creo software.
