The Senior Electrical Engineer- Projects supports the Reedy Creek Energy Services Project Management Department in the successful execution of capital and maintenance projects for the utility’s electric distribution system. This role assists with project planning, design coordination, field support, and documentation to ensure projects are delivered safely on schedule, and within budget while meeting technical standards and operational needs.
Working with operations and project managers, the Senior Electrical Engineer- Projects helps integrate engineering requirements into project workflows, ensures accurate communication between stakeholders, and supports construction activities from initiation through closeout. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and eager to build technical and project delivery skills in a utility environment.
This position reports to the Manager of Projects, Electrical.
What You Will DoManage and oversee external design firms to ensure engineering designs meet project requirements, quality standards, schedules, and budget constraints
Support the planning and execution of underground electric distribution projects, including cable replacements, duct bank installations, switchgear upgrades, and associated communication or SCADA improvements.
Assist project managers with developing scopes of work, schedules, budgets, and resource plans for assigned projects.
Coordinate with engineering, operations, GIS, construction crews, and external contractors to ensure project requirements and design intent are clearly understood.
Help prepare project documentation including drawings, specifications, bid packages, submittal reviews, and as-built records.
Conduct on-site field visits to verify existing underground conditions, support construction activities, and track project progress.
Assist with project risk identification and mitigation, including reliability and outage impact assessments.
Maintain accurate and organized project files, tracking logs, and records to support project reporting and compliance needs.
Provide support for commissioning activities, equipment testing, and project closeout deliverables.
Participate in troubleshooting efforts for distribution equipment or systems related to ongoing project work.
Must be flexible and available to respond to after-hour emergencies under short notice. This includes responding to emergencies outside of normal work shift.
Utility experience in high voltage (up to 15kV) electric distribution systems
Proficiency in the design and/or installation understanding of electrical distribution systems, with interest in underground infrastructure such as cables, vaults, manholes, and switchgear.
5+ years of experience in electrical distribution.
Proficiency with diagnostic and performance monitoring tools.
Proactive problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams.
Strong organizational and communication skills suited for a project-driven environment.
8 years of experience in electric distribution.
Experience with design and construction of various electrical transmission, substation or distribution systems, material and equipment (69kV and 12kV)
Registration as a professional engineer (PE) in the State of Florida
Proven ability to negotiate effective decision-making with clients and internal/external service providers across all project phases.
Bachelor’s degree in science in engineering from an ABET-accredited institution is required.

The hiring range for this position in Florida is $100,100.00 to $134,200.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
