As a Senior Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist, you will lead site-wide safety and environmental initiatives, drive regulatory compliance, and strengthen a proactive safety culture. You will serve as the site subject matter expert, advising leadership, improving risk‑reduction programs, and supporting hands‑on execution to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations.
Responsibilities
- Serves as the site EHS subject matter expert providing strategic guidance to leadership and cross‑functional teams.
- Advises site leadership on risk, compliance, and operational decisions through a risk‑based EHS perspective.
- Develops and executes long‑term EHS strategies focused on risk reduction, compliance assurance, and cultural maturity.
- Achieves measurable improvements in key performance indicators (KPIs) including Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR), Days Away Restricted or Transferred (DART), and environmental metrics.
- Leads continuous improvement of EHS performance including reductions in recordables, near misses, and environmental risks.
- Develops, implements, and improves core safety programs such as Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), Hazard Communication (HAZCOM), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and Confined Space.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations including Cal/OSHA and environmental requirements.
- Leads complex incident investigations using advanced root‑cause analysis methodologies and drives corrective and preventive actions to closure.
- Analyzes and trends EHS data to identify systemic risks and proactively implements solutions.
- Strengthens a proactive safety culture by coaching supervisors and managers on safe behaviors and regulatory responsibilities.
- Leads and improves EHS training strategy and delivery to support engagement and retention.
- Directs and mentors the EHS Specialist, providing technical guidance, prioritization, and developmental support.
- Develops and standardizes Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments across departments.
- Ensures environmental compliance including hazardous waste management, reporting, and risk mitigation.
- Leads emergency preparedness and response planning including drills and follow‑up improvements.
- Supports capital projects, process changes, and new equipment implementations to ensure EHS integration.
- Performs other related duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in the environmental health and safety field.
- Experience leading site‑wide EHS programs and influencing senior leadership.
- Project management experience in manufacturing environments.
- Technical expertise in incident investigations and risk mitigation.
- Collaborative working style supporting multiple departments.
- Advanced knowledge of Cal/OSHA, South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD), Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification.
- HAZWOPER training.
- CPR/First Aid training.
